Im using Bionic pup 8 64bit
what I tried, running localhost:631 on firefox, palemoon, and chrome.
all showing the same result.
printer ip1980, turned on, plugged in.

update:
I found the cause of the error, it seems that the deb files i got from this website https://seegatesite.com/installing-driv ... untu-work/ causes the error, so that i have to re-install puppy linux to get rid of the error, as I searched for the solution I stumbled upon some posts related to ip1900 printer driver in puppy forums, but alas, all the source/project is either expired or shutdown way back to year 2009.
I already spent a lot of time in linux, all I learned is that linux OS is never completed, so I am planning to get back to windows.

couple days ago, i went complain the canon company about the unavailable 64bit ip1900 driver, that time the 32bit still available, today, they shut down all the linux driver, it can't be found in the website anymore.

yes I follow the instruction and stuck at number 1 (installing printer)
when I choose add printer it doesnt provide me with anything but a continue button, clicking it doesnt get anywhere.
local printer:
discovered network printers:
other network printers:
[continue]

it seems like a fail script to me, something is broken.

What is the specific make and model of the printer?
How is it connecting to the computer?

May need to install a driver package for the specific make and model printer.

even without connecting to a printer, the dialog shouldnt be like that as i remembered.

I didnt have any problem with setting up CUPS printer before in another OS.
In Elive OS, no problem (except the live version needs to be root)
In Linux Mint, no problem
In Lubuntu, no problem

same printer, same way of installing

as for the driver, the canon ip1900 driver is special, why? because it is not in CUPS database and as for the 64bit driver is only available in Ubuntu forum, someone made the package and libs specially for this kind of printer.

Puppy Linux does not come with every possible piece of hardware drivers already in Puppy Linux.
It has general generic drivers for most hardware.
Network hardware is well supported, so you can get connected to the internet and get whatever software is still needed.

So, it is probably missing the needed driver to run the printer.
So I will ask again.
Is canon ip1900 the printer you are trying to use?
How is it connecting to the computer?

Do not compare Puppy Linux to the way some other version of Linux works.
Puppy Linux works differently in several ways.

Yes, my printer is Canon iP1980, it is connecting to the pc using USB cable, it doesn't have a fancy wifi connect.

My hunch was right, it was the CUPS in the BionicPup that is a FAILURE.
Today, I tried to run XenialPup64 from the flash drive, to test and see wether the CUPS "add printer" dialog is the same as Bionic Pup, and the result shocked me, it showing the right thing, same as the other linux system. It's not about the driver, it's the CUPS. idk how to remove or repair CUPS in puppy, maybe you can guide me about it? if the deb or pet file for cups available it can be done by myself, but if it is a .tar.gz thinggy, I totally lost on that.

I think you should use Xenial then.

The only reason to use Bionic would be due to Bionic supporting some part of your hardware devices that you need to use that Xenial does not support.
It seems to be the other way around, Xenial works so I would use that.

Replacing CUPS is nothing a sane person would want to try. We do have insane persons in the forum
and they will help you try though

Good Luck, I think you will need it if you try to upgrade CUPS
Some people are lucky though.

it is helpful for people who is having trouble installing ip1900 driver on linux 64bit system, since canon themself claim that there is no driver for 64bit linux machine. however, i already bookmarked the solution, and it is the only solution that works, it maybe helpful for someone who also have ip1900 series printer.

yes, it seems that way, it seems VERY hard to mess with CUPS, whether replacing/upgrading/degrading it. I hope one day CUPS can be easily settled in PPM or at least in the terminal.

Bionicpup64 8.0 desktop has an icon Quickpet.
Run Quickpet->Info->Bionicpup updates
That will get all the bug fixes and updates up to the time you do this.
Reboot just to make sure all of it gets into the save.

I do not have a printer hooked up at this time.

Seems to look like the image for Xenialpup64 7.5 Cups.
I see you are using Firefox to display Cups.
I am using Pale Moon the latest version.

Note:
If you installed Firefox by not using the Firefox offered in Quickpet>Browsers, that could be a problem.
The Firefox offered in Quickpet is compiled for Bionicpup64 8.0 and the way Puppy Linux works.
It is not the latest version, but the Firefox internal update, should be able to update it to latest version.

I take back all my words, something is weird. upon installing Xenial, thing is not going as smooth as installing Bionic, like it cant locate the .sfs file by default, and failing in installing grub4dos.
So, I give bionicpup another chance, i tried to run the add printer on CUPS, and it shows up just normal. Idk what I did wrong before so that it doesnt shows up...hmmm... I have a hunch that because I removed palemoon from system, becauseI use firefox...thats my guess, but who knows.

Yes, Ive done something bad to palemoon, I think that was a mistake. I guess, ill just let it sit there ,no harm done i guess. my next thing is to try and see if the ubuntu printer driver is actually can be used in puppy or not.
