BusterPup's mapping is different from anything else I have ever seen, including your Dpup Stretch.

@phat7

In BusterPup Beta-1, mouse and keyboard input are managed by the evdev interface, i.e. the conventional kbd_drv.so and mouse_drv.so modules are not in the iso. I think 666philb and peebee do the same in their recent Pups.

I don't know if reverting to the conventional input drivers and non-evdev xorg.conf will help your situation in JWM, but it fixes my incorrectly mapped Print and Up keys in Openbox. As time permits, please test the following:

1- In the attached archive you will find the conventional keyboard and mouse drivers for BusterPup Beta-1. Copy kbd_drv.so and mouse_drv.so to the following folder: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/

2- Rename /etc/X11/xorg.conf to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak

3- Copy the conventional (non-evdev) xorg.conf-auto-pc to xorg.conf, so that XkbRules=xorg rather than XkbRules=evdev.

cp -f /etc/X11/xorg.conf-auto-pc /etc/X11/xorg.conf

4 - Restart X-server

Thanks for confirming the fix for BusterPup.

Quick question:

The current Dpup Stretch RC5 with k4.1.58 uses conventional mouse and keyboard drivers, so that distro should be OK for mapping your keyboard. However, since the Dpup Stretch RC5 with k4.19.56 (like BusterPup Beta 1) uses evdev to manage mouse and keyboard interfaces, does this fix also resolve incorrectly mapped keys in that scenario?

Thanks

(This is only a 'negative' piece of info).
Oh, I had been in the Dpup Stretch RC5 with k4.19.56 a few minutes ago, when I tried the keys that had made trouble for phat7.
They did their usual jobs, eg UpArrow, End, ??
Now I've booted this new Buster with pfix=ram, and also see no problem with those keys.

All this is on my usual Dell laptop E6410 and JWM.

Thanks,
Sheldon

Yes, it is.

Sorry, I can not test this now, I have not downloaded this version. You explained that this version is for recent HW and my HW is very old. Maybe somebody else can test this?

@sheldonisaac The keys do their usual jobs for you because the distros use keynames for JWM shortcuts and these names are the same. I prefer to use keycodes for my personal shortcuts, and these keycodes also used to be the same but differ in BusterPup for no apparent reason. This makes it now impossible to share a common configuration with multiple distros.

Hi radky,

Thank you very much for this 5 star and hugely appreciated production with not even a hint of a hitch after some 8 hours of use.

I only learned of it this morning and it is already configured to my liking; some app and icon changes are minor and mere personal preferences.

GetFlash, has a recent update; though here in England it is taking almost 3 minutes to connect, but it still works and meantime I browse The Forum.

Snap-3 shows my PaleMoon Add-ons and my favourite, for ease of use, is:
PrefBar (displaying the line from “Flash” through to “Kill” where < and > repeat “back and forward” and ^ reloads the current page).

I shall be happy to upload (by edit below) the hidden /root/.moonchildproductions file for substitution in /root if there is interest. I merely copied it from my in-use version of radky’s, also excellent, Stretch-7.5-(RC5).
Take care not to lose any current Add-ons and/or Bookmarks if you try it; plus my screen resolution is 1024 pixels wide so it may look different to you.

Cheers
Mike

Please let me know if I need to adjust BusterPup.

I will recompile the kernel with gcc 8.3.0 of BusterPup,

For the next release (Beta-2), it may be best to include conventional keyboard and mouse drivers for default compatibility with most users. However, for those who prefer evdev for management of mouse and keyboard interfaces, we can include a small script (with GUI) that will enable a quick switch from conventional input drivers to the evdev interface, or back again when needed.

Your choosing, but in menu>Setup there are two different programs for setting the default applications.
If you want to only have one.
I suggest keeping Default Applications Chooser.
