When Slacko loads, one of the lines is keyboard set to se which is odd as I have a US keyboard and I have to change the setting back to US every time I start up the computer. Is there a file I have to edit somewhere?

/etc/X11/xorg.conf

The xorg.conf file has the settings.

I assume you are making changes by using the Mouse/keyboard Wizard>Layout for your country.

If you are running from Slacko on a USB flash drive.
Are you clicking the desktop save icon to get the change saved?

Are you booting using the boot menu entry for normal boot ?

Do you mean console-output about keyboard layout?
If so, it may be a pkeys= parameter in grub4dos menu.lst(?) or an accidentally translated initrd.gz...
