Ok I deleted the first attempt and cleaned up the post relating to it since it was clearly a alpha release and this one is a beta, saves making a whole new thread over just 1 release

updated firefox 66
added libatomic
upgrade to openssl-1.0.2r
Installed and configured apulse
added gtk+3-3.4.4
PPM update for downloads
installed gimp 2.4.7 main image editor removed error splash screen.
installed evince main pdf viewer
upgraded inkscape lite
installed audacious 3.10 plus libmms,mpg123,openal
Installed Uextract
Updated the boot slash screen
Updated tons of graphics
Installed glib 2.0 schemas generator pet from the forum
I'll star working on the devx

Hope I got the name right.

I have terrible internet ( internal wiring issues ) but the NBN is not far off
so I will wait it out. Meanwhile using Aldi mobile to tether when it's really bad.

So I will download early am when the speed may be faster.
( so I will wait it out. Amazingly I decided a minute after posting to download it...25 minutes...but that's OK considering)

Did a quick LiveCD test on the old 2003 Celeron M laptop. This machine likes Slacko 5.7s and this one was no exception. Audacious is a nice addition, and having GIMP as standard equipment is very nice. The Firefox 65.0.2 runs pretty well, although YouTube videos are a stretch on only 1 GB RAM.

Slacko 5.7 lovers certainly have an embarrassment of riches these days.

I used the schemeas, and installed a YT download button. All OK.

It took me a while to get it to boot, initially had issue where couldn't find puppy_slacko)5.7.sfs. After getting that issue sorted, I couldn't get wifi to work. My laptop is about 3 years old with Intel 7265 wifi PCIe card. When I checked dmesg there was no details relating to wifi, so it would appear that as the 3.4.x kernel which would have predated my wifi card. I would have done a kernel swap, but this puppy does not use zdrv, so I'm out of luck at present.

I'll try and give it a run over the weekend, on my desktop which has intel 7260 wifi, which I noticed that there is firmware already installed.

Thanks ttuuxxx for going the extra yard in attempting to help with the pet. I should have probably provided more information, so I apologize for wasting your time. I have a backup of all the iwlwifi-7265/D (and 7260) firmware. The problem is that the 7265 wasn't indentified in the linux kernel until 3.13.x kernel. I have loaded firmware, ran modprobes and rebooted, but no wifi found.

So at present its a no go for me.

You know those cheap usb wifi adapters for like $5 or less on aliexpress comes in handy for situations like this

Actually 3 pages, But we went from a alpha release to a beta release in one release hence the cleanup of the post. But I'm not done yet, I'm thinking about rebuilding the backend and updating it, so basically going back to Alpha and moving forward. lol But the end result will be it would be more stable and smaller and quicker than other of the latest releases.
Maybe I'm grasping at straws but my wife is away for 4 days and that gives me ample time. lol

On another note, people have different ways of getting Apulse to work, I came up with my own method, Basically you copy the Apulse.sh file as /usr/local/bin/defaultbrowser then add the location of the firefox bin in the end so it looks like this.

that way every time you start Firefox so does Apulse. works for me

Actually just started compiling the latest GCC 8.3.0 the compiler in this version of Linux is missing some commands compared to the latest.
But that will be all for tonight, I have to watch the latest Star Trek and Orville now. lol

Well it's your thread, you do what you wish with it.

My concern is that every time you reset your thread like that, potentially precious
history of -- and feedbacks on -- the build may be lost. If something goes wrong
and the capacity for back-tracing the problem is gone, hmmm, not good, IMO.

I know you have it all in your head, but if you get hit by a train or a bus tomorrow
(God forbid! But it tends to happen more than elsewhere in this area...), we here
will be stuck up a certain creek with no paddle!

Hi ttuuxxx,

Tried your slaxxx iso on an Acer C720.
Was under the assumption it would be based on Sailors 5.7.1 (kernel 3.18.117 or so).
But uname -r showed it was 3.4.xx

So it did not support audio on this platform. And it does not support the touchpad.

For the rest it looked familiar, booted right to desktop, and had a working FF66.0
WIFI worked, did not test bluetooth.

Too bad for the old kernel.

Maybe in the near future....?

This is an about:support listing that indicates 'important' changes from default I used in the alpha of this spin. Useable in FF66 also. I will opine that UO-lite and these configs makes it snappier, and less memory intensive./MHO

3/29/19 EDIT: The listing has had to be altered. There is a delayed breakage of Firefox that occurs when scanning for the browser update (this HAS to occur... used to be turned off)

After I remove the targz file, a new one will be placed here.
