#1 Post by budgee »

Hi

I'm running xenial64 and have just installed Truecrypt.

http://puppylinux.org/wikka/TrueCrypt

The icon appears in Menu >> Utility

But when I select it nothing happens.

Any pointers please..

Thank You..

Hi budgee,

Truecrypt is a 32-bit program.Probably needs the 32bit compatibility package loaded.

Thats about all I can figure.

I think there is a program in xenial called quickpet that has packages listed for download/install.

If not there, the 32bit compatibility package can be downloaded from this page, it is the very first item on the list.
https://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/p ... -xenial64/

If you already have the 32bit compatibility package loaded and it still does not launch, maybe try the other truecrypt version listed on the truecrypt page.

You can load an sfs package using SFS load-on-the-fly
That is located in Menu---> Setup

The SFS package will probably need to be located in /mnt/home/ for SFS load to see it.

Welcome to the forum!

You can download truecrypt-7.1a for x64 from:

https://truecrypt.ch/downloads/

Untar the tarball and just click the installer after giving it execute permissions. It install truecrypt in /usr/bin. Run in console:

Code: Select all

truecrypt
and go to Settings-Preferences-System integration and choose "Do not use kernel cryptographic services".

Welcome to Puppy Land!
xenial64
This is not useful information.
This could be several different Puppy versions with Xenial in their name.
Always, always, always, tell use the exact full name and version .

We are assuming you are using Xenialpup64 7.5.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

Thx Everyone. Truecrypt is up and running...

Looking in the mnt/truecrypt directory was new to me. But all my files are intact. So I'm very happy.

Its great to have puppy again..

Run in console:
I like the GUI. and it works
go to Settings-Preferences-System integration and choose "Do not use kernel cryptographic services".
Is this a security issue. ?

I know Truecrypt has an interesting past

No. This setting is required in puppy for the correct working of legacy truecrypt.

Guessing if you run Truecrypy on the same Kernel all the time, you don't have to uncheck that kernel box..
