Puppy in Wyse C50LE thin client not saving LAN settings

#1 Post by earlytv »

C50LE has via eden cpu 1ghz, 1gb ram, vt1708 azalla sound, vt6120, 6121,6122 lan, vx855, vx875 chrome 9 video.
I have puppy xp on it, kernal 2.6.33.2 i686.
firefox is at 45, opera 12.
Each time at startup system needs to find the lan over again? Then its ok untill shut down?
It claims to save it but does not?
WHY?

All this info came from puppy linux XP, the system info.

I have over 60 puppy linux and do not have them all.
I have 3 that say looks like xp, a 2.02, 2.10 and 2.6. The 2.02 has seamonkey 1.0 and I have 2.6 up to firefox 45.02.

Looks like there are more XP like Puppy linux.

This one says kernel is 2.6.33.2, but at start up it says Lucid 528. That is the one I am asking about.

hi earlytv

You seem to be on a thin client.
Please tell some more about te installation of your XP Puppy/Lucid Puppy.
Is it a frugal or a full install?
Do you use a pupsavefile? What filesystem?
Does anything persist after reboot?
How do you setup network connection? With sns or ... ?

Ok,

it's a Puppy that just looks like XP, but it's really a Lucid 5.2.8 Puppy.

Lucid 5.2.8 is pretty old and Lucid 5.2.8 - 004 was the first version that comes with the massive audio/sound problems fixed.

Also I never saw that kind of computer that you've been using.

Is that also a pretty old one?

Just curious...

Looking at the specs of this C50LE.
What is the Puppy operating system booting from?
What storage device?
What are you saving settings on?
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

It is a Thin Client that has a small solid state drive board that plugs into it on the inside. I have a adapter that plugs where that would go and lets me use a microdrive, up to 8GB. I then use a usb stick that has a puppy linux or has windows lite 7 or WES 7 and then they get full install to the micro drives. I have 5 different Puppy Linux and 2 windows micro drives.

So far puppy linux Stretch 7.5 with Pale moon works the best and is fast for only a 1GHZ system. I am on it now.
The puppy linux can and some do set up a swap drive section.

I have a very small SUN purple case that is empty and this project is to get the Thin Client board working in there. I think I will have the Microdrive stick out the back of the SUN case so I can try lots of software.

Are you talking about the teeny-weeny Toshiba/Hitachi 1" 'micro' disk-drives, in the CF format.....or (heaven forbid) the ancient Sinclair endless tape-loop Microdrives? I take it this is a CF adapter, then?

Just curious, since this kinda fooling around is more in my line than playing about with brand-new, top-of-the-line tech..!

Sounds like a Wyse C50LE 'thin-client', Lazy. One of these, I think...

Starhawk would've been the kiddy to ask about these, if he hadn't quit the forums a year or two back. Loved playing around with all this 'odd' hardware, he did.....and he 'knew his stuff', too. He was a goldmine of information when it came to thin-clients, 'cos at last count he was running at least 3 of them.....

I can talk about the official Lucid Puppy 528.
In development there where problems, as you say you have with remembering settings.
The final release was Lucid 528.005.
That .005 is important, because that is Lucid 528 with the bugs fixed.

Thanks to all.
Another system I wanted, but lost, runs RedHat Linux 6.0 for Sparc, very old and slow. If I had got it I would have been looking for a puppy to run on it?
