Hello Puppy Hardware Geeks,

I have a concern about hard drives wearing out.
The machine I'm referencing has two HDDs.
I know little of hardware architecture.
Because the machine has two HDDs does this indicate that if one HDD goes down the other HDD still functions?
Does this machine have an eight-chambered Klingon heart? So that, revitalization is possible?

The second hard drive would still work, if the hard drive that failed was the boot hard drive, then the computer wouldn't boot.

It would be an easy fix though. Boot Puppy with a usb drive or CD, install Puppy on the still working hard drive, mark it bootable in Gparted, and (maybe) set it as the boot able drive in the bios. Then you'd be back in business.

you can even preempt all that by putting grub on the second drive now, making it bootable, and copying the grub configuration from the first drive to the second one.

the bios will never boot to more than one drive at a time (unless we are talking about something completely different than this.) the second drive will not be "sda" until you remove the first one, but thats fine.

if its a backup, it doesnt need to be "sda" as long as the primary drive works.

which means you can have the same grub config on both drives, and just keep backing up files from the first to the second.

What you wrote gave me the answer I need.
It would seem right then to pursue using the second HDD2 to mount a boot and a puppy(s). That will give HDD1 a rest for a while.
I just wanted to check and make sure that if HDD1 went down then a HDD2 could still be a usable drive.
So, a double drive setup is possibly a Doctor Who with two hearts. :lol:
