I have problem with installing nvidia drivers in Slacko 5.7

#1 Post by puppy_apprentice »

I wanted to install old nvidia drivers for RivaTNT2 M64 but without success.

1. I've downloaded NVIDIA-Linux-x86-71.86.15-pkg1.run package.
2. I've loaded SFS: devx_slacko_5.7.sfs and kernel_sources-3.4.82-slacko_4g_f2fs.sfs.
3. Rebooted to prompt.
4. Added to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Code: Select all

blacklist nouveau
to /etc/modprobe.d/nouveau.conf

Code: Select all

options nouveau modeset=0
5) Rebooted again to prompt.
6) Ran I've downloaded NVIDIA-Linux-x86-71.86.15-pkg1.run and got error (see attachment)

Hi puppy_apprentice,

You probably need kernel headers loaded along with the devx and kernel sources.

Kernel headers pet file located here.

May the force be with you!

No success.
I've got the same error with .sfs and .pet stuff installed/loaded.
I've got the same error even with getnvidia.pet.

Does anybody have a .pet with nvidia drivers for RivaTNT2 M64 that works well on wide screens (eg. 1400x900)?

Just did some digging around after trying to compile that driver in slacko 5.7 and having it fail.

Ran into this post by shinobar
http://45.33.15.200/puppy/viewtopic.php ... cf3#849932
That talks about needing patches for certain older nvidia drivers to compile in version 3 kernels
which leads to this post by catdude with some instructions on how he got one of the old drivers compiled in slacko.

I found those posts by searching for my error message using google.
Good luck in your search.
