you still see those icons on the desktop:
My temporary workaround for the "Ghost Icons" bug is to edit /root/.xinitrc
Insert a line with

Code: Select all

touch /var/local/pup_event_icon_change_flag
before the line

Code: Select all

/clean_desk_icons #v4.02 tidy up drive icons first.
In August the testing branch of Woof-CE removed all of the unconditional code in clean_desk_icons. As a result it does nothing in .xinitrc.

BEWARE! I don't understand much of the gibberish in Puppy scripts. I'm just copying what eventmanager does.
It seems to restore behaviour similar to Xenialpup64

Trying to get my new Lenovo Yoga 530 (ryzen 2500u) to run.

On the good side, BionicPup64 is the only Puppy running X. Even LxPup with a more recent kernel failed.

On the challenge side
- No wifi. The device is shown as Realtek c821 in Hardinfo, but is not detected in SNS nor Frisbee.
- Touchpad isn't working, and I can't find any info about this in Hardinfo.
- Touchscreen is not working
- The Function-keys (Eg. to decrease the screen brightness) is not working.

Very Happy to see a new official Puppy in the shaping.

Thanks a lot
Sigmund

Bionicpup64 7.9.5

Quickpet>Bionicpup Updates

Downloaded and installed several updates.
Do it and see what you get.
added ubuntus hardinfo so sensors work ...etp
added fdisk (swap wasn't mounting) ...etp
added xdg-mime, needed by some apps
added chromium browser with hardware acceleration to quickpet
fixed xsane online help ... it calls netscape :)
As test to see if it works OK.
Quickpet>Drivers>Nvidia 390.87
Downloaded, installed and now using this Nvidia driver.
Driving a Geforce GTX 1070
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Bionicpup64 7.9.5 beta

#169 Post by Billtoo »

I had been running Chromium installed from PPM but it wouldn't launch anymore so I uninstalled it and installed the one from Quickpet.

It's working fine, my bookmarks and settings from the Chromium that I was using are still there.

Terry H had mentioned cpu temp always showing the same temp. The
other bug in pmcputemp I often see (on xenial and tahr pups also)
is a repeated message at startup to the effect that cpu temp does
not work here :) I've long had to get rid of the annoyances by deleting
pmcputemp from Startup. My observations include experiences on at
least the six different computers I currently have.

Terry saw the issue of showing the same temp all the time as a minor
problem, but I see it as a seriously misleading one. Until it's fixed, I
think it should be removed. For experienced users needing cpu core(s)
and/or hard drive temps, there are very simple ways to "do it
yourself".

Same on the Lenovo Yoga 530 mentioned above.

.5 /latest updated tested on 2 tabletpc both with k4.18.12
-one got cpu temp display ootb with icon on menu also ..i7 640m/legacy bios
-other needed lmsensor ok report/hdinfo but no menu icon..i5 4210u/uefi

is it irrelevant to report behavior with non "stock" kernels??

edit....-other needed lmsensor ...wrong
sorry needed coretemp module
edit..again...im definitely a bad tester...
wrong again
,oups...coretemp is in kernel integrated? or you add module once ,disable it
and its still there ,does not show in kernel loaded module...
mmm reboot is slower...
and this i5 uefi tablet is ...from hell..
lots of m$ stuff in bios&will check ram for prblem...could explain the cheap price...
but still psi

welcome to uefi &"$ecurity" which to me sound more or less like financial secure world of closesource...well,linux being freaking good at eventually making hardware work anyways,in a way,its good for economy, corporation needing to secure their "bank account" get new hardware...

CUPS Problem

#174 Post by davids45 »

G'day 666philb,

Trying your latest beta-bionic. Posting from it now.

Most if not all of my applications on my pinboard now run :D (screenshot); these are set up in an sfs of links to off-partition program files so I need only use one sfs to have all my apps available and my savefile is very small.

My few problems found involved:

CUPS - I could not get in to set up any printers (screenshot) with an 'Internal Server Error'; I tried two browsers with the same result.

ROX - (for woodenshoe-wi?) I see the same expanded display in the Details view as others have mentioned but ROX will still work this way
- I can move the columns to get a better order for me but the new lay-out does not persist (screenshots); can a column order change be made permanent or the default be set to put 'Last Modified' in a more convenient position?

Drive Icons - I still have a problem to find a working set of numbers to get a correct display across the bottom of my monitor; screenshot shows numbers that work - changing any one of these gives incomplete and piled-up icons. Does anyone know the mathematics to cover a good versus bad display when there are a lot of drive icons?

Thanks 666philb for all your trouble.

David S.

Hopefully that is fixed in rox-filer-11woodenshoe, see
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 31#1006631

The fix was made after 7.9.5 beta was released. The next release should include the fixed version automatically.

I haven't tried to implement that, but it might already be implemented in Jun7's ROX-Filer. https://github.com/jun7/rox-filer

Bionicpup64 7.9.5, frugal, using save folder.

I have a long list of drive partitions.
Puppy Event Manager>Rox Icons
I tried changing these numbers to see what happens.
This pile-up problem seems to be random.
Sometimes they pile-up sometimes they display correctly.
Changing the spacing number should have the biggest affect.
What happened to putting the icons into two rows?
So, something controlling this is not working for me too!

ROX List view now good in Bionic64-795

#177 Post by davids45 »

G'day woodenshoe-wi,

Your latest ROX64 version has fixed the oversize row-view in Bionic64 for me, as it has for others who've reported ahead of me.

And my issue with the column display order was my problem really - I had forgotten all I needed to do was delete the unwanted columns in Rox>Options>List view and I now see, as default, only those columns that are useful to me  :D .

Bionicpup64 7.9.5, frugal, using save folder.

The pmcputemp icon on the tray never changes.
It always reads 27.

I noticed in /root/.config/pmcputemp there is only one image file.
temp.png

This image file is the number 27.

Wonder if this is why only temp indication is 27 all the time.
No image file for other temps.
Or
pmcputemp is not changing this temp.png file to reflect the current temp.

@bigpup - that file is only a template. The program is not picking up the actual temp. I have written a clumsy workaround that works in slacko64. It relies on having all previous pmcputemp files removed, having /usr/lib64 (NOT a symlink) & starts the generator in /root/Startup, so I don't want to publish it due to user risk.

hi davids45,

something you have installed has probably changed permissions on certain folders which causes cups not to work try

Code: Select all

chmod 755 /initrd/pup_rw
with the drive icons, in rox options click on pinboard and set the icon grid step to 'fine'. does this fix the issue?

Hi,

I just booted Bionicpup64 7.9.5, with pfix=ram.

On this Dell laptop E 6410.

The pmcputemp icon on the tray does change; right now it's 51.. now 48..
50.. 47 etc

OK, will save, reboot, & report.

----------

Booted with the new savefolder, tray icon continues to change, every few seconds.

It seems what computer you are using has an affect on pmcputemp.

I have a desktop it does not work on.
I have a laptop it works OK on.

I am talking with ozsouth who has made a code change to pmcputemp.sh that seems to make it work in my desktop.
For some reason he is reluctant to post it.

Hopefully he will post it here for others to try.
I am asking him to offer it.

Why yes, it did fix the problem.

Drive icons no-longer bunch up.
Tried several setting changes.
