The AMD chipset sound issue

From what I read, the problems I experience are similar to those
experienced by many others using various amd cpu chipsets. I setup to
select the generic analog card rather than the hdmi card, and sometimes
at startup my card is not selected. Sometimes both cards are selected,
Sometimes a "wrong" card # is selected. Following suggestions others
have posted have not led to a reliable result. It's not that I can't get
sound working at startup. For personal use there is no problem.
Since Fatdog 721 has never exhibited the problem for me, it seems there
might be light at the end of the tunnel. Fatdog does things differently.
Alsa Mixer instead of Retrovol, for one example. It would be very
interesting to test a possibly fixed version of Tahr, xenial and/or slacko.
