Subject description: Need info to pass onto someone else...

Afternoon, boys & girls.

Need some information, to help somebody else out with a wifi problem. The individual in question wants to use a smartphone as internet connection for a netbook/laptop.

I believe this involves the practice known as 'tethering', but since I've never had any reason to try and attempt this, I'm at a bit of a loss as to where to look.

The Puppy in use is Tahrpup 6.0.5 (32-bit).

Any suggestions, advice, tips, etc., will as always be very much appreciated.

TIA.

Mike. Wink

Mike, I always use Dougal's network manager. When I attach my phone for tethering via USB, it just shows up in the network manager as a USB network adapter. (Not wireless)

Hi, jafa.

Fair enough. I'll pass the information along. Never having attempted anything like this, I'll have to take your word for it; I have no experience of such stuff.

Cheers!

I sometimes use tethering. I just set up my Android phone to do tethering and sign in to the SSD wifi address with the password I set up on the phone and I am away.
At one time tethering was frowned on but as long as you don't abuse the allowance then you should be OK.

@ all:-

Thanks for the extra info, guys. Once again, I'll pass it on.....with references, so the OP can cross-check if he so desires. The thread for this is over at BleepingComputer, if anyone wants to follow it:-

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/680624/tahr-pup-605-32-bit-and-easytether/#entry4532278

Since I seem to be the unofficial Puppy 'guru' over there, I thought I'd better see what I could do!

Cheers, all.
