Undocumented feature of Openbox window manager

#1 Post by ITSMERSH »

Hi.

I don't know if anyone ever noticed this in Openbox Window Manager (can't say if this works in other WM's), but when clicking the 'Full Window Size' icon in the window title bar by right-click, the window's size increases to full screen width only.

Just to mention it...

Hi, ITSMERSH.

I use (amongst others) ETP's version 1 of his 'Chromebook' Pup.....or 'Chromepup' as I've long since christened it.

This uses Openbox w/ROX. I can't say as I've ever noticed this occurring in that Puppy.

I also spend the occasional session in Lucid 5287. Richard's Pup also uses Openbox, and, again, the problem is absent there.

I do, however, recall having the exact same thing happening around 4 years ago, during my very early Linux days, and during the period when I was still 'distro-hopping', before settling down with Puppy. I forget which distros - I tried so many! - but whenever I tried one with Openbox, the problem was present in all of them in those days.....

Sorry I'm not able to be of much more help.

Mike.

Hey Mike.

I don't take this as "being a problem", more like "being a feature", since I find it very useful to have easily a window sized at full screen width without to cover the whole screen. 8)

Never mind, though I'm not looking for a "fix". That's why I put this into the "HOWTO" section.

Interesting. When I middle click it here, the window extends to full height. And right click extends to full width, like you said.

May be undocumented for Openbox but for JWM it is documented (bold emphasis by me):
Button 2 (typically the middle button)
Over the maximize button, clicking toggles between vertically maximized and normal. Anywhere else on a window border, dragging while holding button 2 will move the window.

Button 3 (typically the right button)
Over the border, clicking shows the window menu. Over the minimize button, clicking toggles between shaded and unshaded. Over the maximize button, clicking toggles between horizontally maximized and normal. Over the close button, clicking closes the window. Over the pager, dragging with button 3 will move a window.
