xenialpup64 doesn't like my monitor(Solved)
Hello
xenialpup64-7.5-uefi live cd gives me error on the monitor: out of range. Is there any way I can go back to the basic install where I need to type puppy pfix=ram and also nox.
This does the same on different pcs and I cant try a different monitor at the moment. It is an old monitor but tahr605 has no problems with live cd.
Thanks

Are you seeing a boot menu with optional boot choices?
If yes.
One of those is to boot using nox, so you can run Xorgwizard to manually select graphics settings.
What resolution is the monitor capable of using??
What is the graphics hardware??

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Using nox to boot to a prompt and not start x server should work.
Run Xorgwizard and manually get the Vesa driver selected.
That may be limited to only 1024X768 as high as it will do.
Graphics hardware not supported in Xenialpup could be the problem. Too old.
Xenialpup is more for support of the newest stuff.
Pup-Sysinfo>Devices>Display>Video Info can tell you.
There are other option based on the specific hardware.
I have used older monitors that have to be setup in there setup to accept specific resolutions.
Have had to go into setup on the monitor and activate a specific resolution, so it can be used.
Not all possible resolutions were active.

What graphics driver is it using?Tahr 605 works and gives a resolution of 1280x1024 at 75hz, it also works on 72hz

What is the specific make and model of the monitor?
Xenialpup will normally get information from the monitor about what it is and what resolution is the native resolution.
Set the driver to provide that resolution.
See if the monitor has any internal setting to turn off/on or auto/manual Source Detection.
Anything that may deal with providing monitor info to an operating system.
If it is Nvidia hardware.
The Nouveau driver is being used.
Could try using the boot option

Xenialpup seems to be getting the wrong information about the monitor as Tahr605 sets the resolution to 1280x960 and I have to reset it to 1280x1024.bigpup wrote:What is the specific make and model of the monitor?

There is no way to turn on/off source detection.
There is a pin on the vga cable that gives this information, may try disconnecting that.
The pc has a digital output and the monitor is vga
Sorry!
If you can not answer all my questions I can not try to guess at what is going on

I have a cure for the problem. I have swapped the monitor for another monitor on a pc running xp which has no problem with it.
I think it is time to give up now.
I would much prefer that xenialpup had the normal start up screen but that is a small niggle and for me it is a brilliant o.s.
Thanks for all the help.
All the best.

I tried to do a Google search for the monitor to get some specs and maybe a manual to look in.
Google had trouble finding anything about this monitor
WHAT!
Google is suppose to know everything about everything!
Well, Xenialpup is developed to give Puppy support for the newest hardware and what the Latest Linux kernels still support.
