Pantum P2500W Wireless Printer

#1 Post by fmen »

With the help of some incredibly patient forum members I got the printer to work both wired and wirelessly. Two days ago it stopped printing wirelessly.

Original thread here:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic ... &start=15
Initially, I found the printer ip using easyport (192.168.0.119).
Now, easyport gives me a blank report.

I installed Nmap showing the following results below

I tried the 3 ip's listed without results;

Using xenialpup 64 on Dell n6430n laptop.

Any help would be appreciated.[/url]

It looks like your system has switched subnets from 192.168.0.xxx to 192.168.1.xxx.

Do you have a firewall running?

1. The first step to resolving networking issues is to turn any firewall OFF.

2. What is your own computer's current IP address?

3. Why do you now appear to be on a different subnet? Did something change in your router?

The current IP address is 168.192.0.40.
If there has been a change in the router, it hasn’t affected the Windows partition, as far as printing.
I will turn off the firewall and run Easyport again to see if the printer’s ip reappears.

Then I don't understand why your nmap report is seeing the subnet 192.168.1.xxx.

And I don't understand why all those machines appear to be running print servers.

I don't either.
With the firewall off I get the following results:

Where did you get that nmap command?

Do other machines agree that they are on the 192.168.1.xxx subnet?

OK. Your IP address on 192.168.0.xxx comes from your wireless router.

You never showed how you ran PeasyPort, but I'm guessing that you are scanning that subnet. Please provide a screen-shot of that.

But how is the printer connected to your network? Is it also joining your WiFi network? Does it still have a connection?

You have another subnet 192.168.1.xxx. Is it a wired Ethernet network? Where did you get the nmap command?

The nmap command came from a google search on how to find the printer port IP.
The printer when connected to the laptop's USB prints.
When wireless it was connected via CUPS socke://printerIP:9100 and it printed. Now it doesn't because the Printer IP has disappeared and I can't seem to get it back.
I've tried Puppy from a usb stick, no joy.
I even tried it on a different laptop and still no Printer IP address.
There is no problem printing via Windows.
I can't think of anything else to do
The latest ip info stats on a different laptop:

Please answer all my questions.
But how is the printer connected to your network? Is it also joining your WiFi network? Does it still have a connection?
What procedure did you originally use to connect the printer to your WiFi network?

All WiFi printers have some way of showing you their current IP address, like printing a test page. Find out how to do this.

You still have not shown me the information you are putting into PeasyPort to scan for the printer.

To be honest, it was such a frustrating exercise that I gave it a rest for a while.
This morning, in trying to answer your Peasyport question, I ran it again and lo! it gave me the printer ip for the first time in a week. I plugged it into the CUPS socket: and remote printing is back...for now at least.
I have no idea where the problem lay since all along, the printer continued to print remotely from Windows, Mac, iphone and ipad.
I want to thank you for your help. Despite it all, I've learned a bunch about CUPS, networking, ports etc with your input.

Are you running PeasyPort with the Slow setting? Wireless networks probably need it.

I have attached a new version of PeasyPort. Please test and report.

1. Make sure that you are scanning your WiFi network, not your wired Ethernet LAN.

2. Select Slow speed and MAC. This should identify all the machines currently on WiFi. It will take about 30 seconds.

3. For each, scan its specific IP for Port 9100. This will give you a more reliable way to find the printer when it disappears again.

Be aware that your printer is getting a temporary IP address from your WiFi router via DHCP. So you can expect that its IP address will change occasionally.

Fantastic! Thank you.
As someone new to Puppy, I didn't realize you were the creator of of PeasyPort. What a great utility! I will try the new version when I get home from work.

Also, I noticed you are from Stratford Ontario. Love, love love that area (Niagara-on-the Lake, the wineries, and of course the Shakespeare Festival).
I grew up in Toronto and miss the Canadian summers. Florida is wonderful, but the exceedingly hot humid May-September stretch gets old pretty quickly.
Go Leafs...next year!
