How do I get my eth0 connection to stay connected permanetly

Hi all,just posted this question on Linux Questions,just thought Id try here .My computer hangs up on every 2nd startup, for a minute or more,because my etho connection wont respond(it says it recognises it,but it wont accept its query),and then I have to restart my etho connection again. Any way to avoid this and get my connection up permanently?Thanks ahead of time.
By the way,Im running it installed on a sata hard drive,and its version 2.10r1.
