Could there be any reason I cannot boot it on my fairly new uefi i5 laptop?
There must be something missing in the zdrv. I switched kernel and zdrv with those from slacko700RC from norgo and it boots.

tazpkg of slitaz can convert pet packages to tazpkg
thnx for the tip. I already had some pets "installed" bij copying the bins and libs from the pet into into tazpup Smile I also used the slitaz package installer to install some dependencies; that worked well.
I also had my clock upset, for me it was -2 hours Smile

I keep playing with this delightful try-out. Good idea and nice work, mistfire!

@Smokey there is a puppy linux kernel source code repo in archive.org. Just search it. Sometimes I used peebees lxpup kernel source code. Just patch my custom .config file on the code and start compiling right away.

My custom .config file can be found at /etc/modules of X-Slacko Slim

@mistfire I've had no luck finding the kernel sources for the 4.14.12-slim32 kernel. I do not want to rebuild the kernel. I just need the sources so I can build a video driver. Nvidia needs both, the devx and the sources.

Please provide a link if possible. Somebody must have built the kernel. Was it you or peebee?

As I wasn't able to find the kernel sources I swapped out the kernel to 4.4.70 which is what slacko is using in 6.9.9.9. This way I know the devx matches and so does the kernel source which I have a copies of.

So far things seem to be working but I will try some compiling tomorrow and report back my experiences.

Cheers

@Terry H here is the temporary solution. Login tazpup as root. Delete mount in /bin then rename mount-FULL to mount

@mistfire - Thanks, that fixes the access to NTFS.

The swapped kernel has made the OS a little unstable. Sometimes it boots and other times it hangs and requires a hard shutdown.

When it was up I installed the devx and kernel_sources but the kernel sources didn't match the kernel although the versions matched.

If I can just find the kernel sources used to build the 4.14.12-slim32 kernel, I would be a happy puppy. Laughing Laughing Laughing

https://archive.org/download/Puppy_Linux_Huge-Kernels

slim32 its just my nickname to my compiled kernel. Use the .config file which can be found at /etc/modules of X-Slacko Slim to compile it

Thanks mistfire. I don't need to compile the kernel I just need the sources available for compiling drivers against the kernel.

I didn't find any kernel_sources in that location, nor did I find a huge kernel for 4.14.12. What am I missing?

Mistfire, can you make delta's please to keep the dl's small? Just add xdelta3 and .desktop from any current puppy, xdelta-gui is already there. Tested and working on TazPup.

TIA

@mistfire if you can provide the DOTconfig with all the appropriate switches selected I will try and build the kernel as I have a beastie machine.

I can't find anything on KPTI so I wouldn't know how to define it.

Why do you want kernel 4.15.18? It's end of life. Why not use 4.16.8 as it's the latest stable or was that a typo?

@smokey01 the DOTconfig file was already attached to my post that you quoted. It is in zip file. Using 4.16.18 kernel? why not? thats okay for me.

here is the setting for KPTI. To prevent meltdown and spectre exploit.

CONFIG_PAGE_TABLE_ISOLATION=y

for compressing kernel modules

MODULE_COMPRESS=y

If the compiler ask you for additional settings leave it on default values. But attaching new features on the kernel is better however keep it as modules as possible
