Don't forget that in the strange ubuntu world things get updated but their version number stays the same - all very confusing....

Does dmesg provide any clues?

Probably missing firmware - replace the fdrv with
http://www.fishprogs.software/puppy/fir ... 180526.sfs
suitably renamed.

or download the firmware from github and put it into:
/lib/firmware/rtlwifi

Not Printing

#198 Post by sszindian »

I posted the below over in the graphics section in the mtpaint tread but after trying mtpaint (I believe the same or near version) in xenial64-7.5 and it worked just fine, I figured I'd better post here to see if it's a UPupBB thingy and not mtpaint?

---------------------------------------
Running UpupBB 18.05+6 (32 bit Bionic Beaver)

Can't get mtpaint 3.49.12 to print any graphics. My setup for mtpaint is the same as for other pup's that do print.

It won't draw the graphic-file-path into the dialog box... Manually putting the path into th‎e dialog box, still no print?

Not sure but it looks like it may be missing a gtk something or other?

Any ideas appreciated!

GtkLP is in build and mtpaint is configured to use it.....

File -> Actions -> Print Image

brings up GtkLP dialogue...

so should be OK

Yes... the dialogue box comes up (just like in your posted screenshot) BUT!!! the path of the Image is not in the "files to print" dialogue box (just as it is NOT in the screenshot you posted - When that dialogue box appears and you have an Image on the screen the PATH should be listed in that dialog box!). Now... even if you select +ADD and get the correct path to the Image in the dialogue box... it will not print it! So I'm wondering, did that Image on the mtpaint screen actually print for you???

Or save the graphic and print it with PeasyPrint.

upupbb-18.05+7.iso
Printed for me, although it seems to print 2 copies even though I specify 1.
As you say I had to:
  • Save File
Use +Add button enter File in window
    Highlight File
    Click Print button

Hi rcrsn51... long time no see :)

Yes and thanks, I'm well aware of that! but I'm just testing things out for peebee on this new pup and have in mind the "new user" to puppy... If someth‌ing doesn't function properly it tends to turn them off real fast and they go elswhere. I believe this is a good solid pup (really, aren't too many left) for new users coming to puppy and functions should do what they claim to do.

That's somewhat of a plus... still the graphic 'path' should appear in the dialogue box when it comes up wouldn't you think? Remember... this printing should be an easy no-brain'r to use. I notice your Image is a .png , have you tried a .gif or .jpg ?

Out of curiosity I inserted /usr/bin/gtklp & /usr/bin/gtklpq from:

Artful
Xenial
Tahr

into Bionic. Artful and Xenial acted the same as the original, no file listed when you call up Print. But Tahr's gtklp showed the .tmp file and printed right away, 1 copy too. :D

I just tried a .jpg, with the Tahr files, and it printed no problem. Once again gtklp opened with the file listed in the window and printed with a simple click of the Print button. I know what mod I'm going to make. 8)

I just booted up Artful and gtklp acted normally. The plot thickens.

Thanks @jrb

http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... 2.5-w5.pet

is very old....

but does seem to fix....

wonder why more recent .debs don't work - no error messages are apparent....

very thick plot indeed!!

Stupid question - if I replace gtklp with peasyprint can I make gtklp a link to peasyprint just in case it's used somewhere else as well as mtpaint???

I just replaced /usr/bin/gtklp with a symlink to /usr/sbin/peasyprint, no other changes and got this when choosing Actions > Print Image. I like it, it prints too.

#212 Post by sszindian »

Peasyprint doesn't want to print .GIF images (direct from install/from menu/graphics/PeasyPrint graphic/photo printing) says "Not A Valid File". So installing peasyprint still will not make mtpaint a "complete" package. I suggest finding a "reliable" other-version mtpaint WITH new gtklp and gtklpq files would be the best way.

I don't personally have a horse in this race, but here is a version of PeasyPrint that accepts other formats like GIF.

It uses image-changer, which is part of PeasyScale.

Testing is needed.

I just installed this .pet, created a .GIF in mtpaint and printed it, still just using a symlink for gtklp. Looks good to me.

@jrb

Any chance you could post your exact symlink to peasy?

'thanks'
