what kind of cardreader do you have?
does the card snap into place when you insert it and an icon appear on the desktop, or do you just slide it in and out (maybe overlapping to pull it out again?)

in the latter case you can try to insert card and then start pmount.

Could be something wrong with your laptop card slot mechanism. My old HP laptop also does this sometimes. Try to insert the card and lift the edge slightly before releasing. Also - with some puppys the drive icon actually don't appear immediately but only after a few seconds.

Hmmm, I would first run GParted. Sometimes an unformatted card won't show up. I do presume it to be at least FAT32... but if it does show as unformatted, it may be borked.

Hmmm,

Was that card and card reader working in any other OS, like Windows?

I never had any laptop.

How are card readers connected in laptops?
pci or usb?

Command "lspci" in terminal should give info about the card reader.

It's a memory card slot which recognizes as a removable disk (mine does anyway). In Puppy mine shows as sdc1

uSDHC in an SD-Card adapter in my netbook reads as 'Single Flash Reader' (sdc1) by GParted. FWIW

my laptop is acer aspire one happy. 10" 32 bit, 2011, ..
this memory card (MMC) slot isn't in usb but in her home (PCI)...
why this MMC PCI slot can't read my MMC? in win 7, this is work well. thx a lot
is this cause the driver or something else? if yes, what driver should I use?

If that is the original part from the Acer Aspire 1, you do need a MMC device-driver. The card-reader is special to MMC. I don't know how those were set up USB or PCI, but this part looks to be mini-pci-e a special version different than the wifi socket.

You still have not identified what kind of card you are using in the reader.

I have an Acer Aspire netbook with Slacko 5.6. The card reader is NOT listed in lspci and it doesn't work.

In newer Linuxes, it is identified as a JMicron MMC controller (after you plug in a card) and it works.

Try a newer Puppy.

Or maybe do a kernel upgrade. Ask for help in the Slacko 630 thread.

Sometimes, touching the memory with a bare hand causes the memory to be damaged.
