Any interest in a Precise 571 based NAS that supports LUKS?
Any interest in a Precise 571 based NAS that supports LUKS?
I created a savefile for 571 that has Samba, Cryptsetup, sshd, LuksTools, Nano, and PaulBx1's pupsave converter, shc, etc .. The savefile is encrypted aes128 and is only 128 meg.
Edit: X forwarding over ssh is turned on and enabled, as well.
I chose Precise 571 for this because it is 32-bit and supports a huge range of hardware. There isn't a lot of hardware out there that you can't boot with it. Also, I have the most familiarity with that distro.
I designed this to run from a thumbnail USB flashdrive. Create a small (2gig?) boot partition and install 571 puppy, then drop this savefile in with it, then use the tools to configure the rest of the flashdrive as the LUKS encrypted NAS drive. I used a Sandisk 128g thumbnail 128g sized USB flash for this.
This version has autosave turned off to keep from wearing out the flashmemory, but you can manually save by hitting the icon, and it also asks at shutdown (or just turn it back on ).
It is pre-configured out of the box for 3 logins: nasadm, naspriv, and naspub. It uses the model that nasadm can see everything, naspriv (family members) can see Private & Public files, and guests can only see Public files. I have tested this with Windows (all), Puppy YASSM, Android, and Linux Mint.
Instructions are in the PUPNAS.txt file on the desktop.
Basically, it's the most highly portable Linux NAS and can utilize almost any legacy PC hardware.
If there is interest, I'll zip it up and find someplace to upload it.

Hi jafadmin,
Thats interesting.
Is the network attached storage via /mnt/home/ or /mnt/sdb2/ ? Or network access only?
Might be a stupid question as I have never used any of those tools in your save file.
The save file being 128MB, once installed, is there any reason to not increase its size for additional software?

It attaches at '/' as 'NAS'. You can access it through the usual puppy WM (JWM, etc) and ssh directly for administration. Otherwise, you just access as a user via the network shares.
I usually just light it up, turn off the console, and use ssh from any available workstation to do admin tasks. On puppy, use YASSM to access the shares over the network.
Once set up, it creates three shares: Admin, Private, and Public
The savefile is 128meg for distribution purposes. The 'convert_pupsave' script in /root/my-applications/bin is included so you can make your own flavor and size of savefile (you will need to rename and move the new save file, after it completes). I highly recommend encrypted savefiles for this ..
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.

@jafadmin:-
I agree with perdido. It's not the sort of thing I'd use myself, but I can think of several dozen other Puppians off the top of my head who definitely would be interested.
Yep. Find a spot to put it up for download.
(EDIT:- There ya go. Ally must have posted at the same time as me...)

@jafa:-
Use DataFileHost:-
http://www.datafilehost.com
Many of us use it for short-term stuff. Ally can grab it from there. When it's finished uploading, it'll give you the download link, and also a file delete link.

Looks like that one will work. They rest are heavily throttled, it seems ..ally wrote:https://drive.google.com/open?id=1eDdpQ ... ZQslBYcz0X
