What you say in post #3 is all the stuff I do not know how to do and do not understand. I know that for a computer on Windows Vista (I do not know how this relates to UEFI), we can startup the computer, press or pulse-press the F12 key, reach the boot options menu, and choose to continue the startup to Compact Disc on which there may be a live-linux operating system to try and play with. Contrary to that, a computer on Windows 10, which is present on UEFI computers, will not give us the easy way to get to the boot options menu for startup into whatever drive we want. Instead we have all this secure-boot and legacy boot stuff; and if we turn off secure boot, maybe later we could turn it back on or we cannot turn it back on, so therefore we make our computer less secure. I wish there were a clear, organized way to study and learn this. Internet search attempts at this have given inconclusive and unclear directions and explanations.

I had difficulty understanding your post. I think you asked if Tahrpup can run from Windows 10 computers using UEFI. They can: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 827#975827

I'm sure you asked for recommendations as to which computer to consider buying. May I suggest you post that question on the German (and maybe French) speakers Section(s): http://murga-linux.com/puppy/index.php? ... order=DESC, The computer models available in Europe aren't always identical to those in the Americas, Asia or Australia and New Zealand.

Otherwise, I can only suggest the long search process: find a model, then plug the computers brand, model and "Linux" into a google and see if there are reports about it.

I'm guessing, but I think there are two factors which may help reduce the possible models to look for. (1) It's unlikely that any of the 'nice" computers which are tablets with detachable keyboard will be serviceable. They are really tablets and that's an entirely different kettle of fish than pcs. (2) Major manufacturers --Dell, Lenovo, Asus, Acer-- having more purchasing power (economics of scale) to buy "standard" components at a lower cost are more likely to use components for which Linux drivers are available. Smaller manufactures, in order to keep down costs, may opt for "off-brand" components.

From experience, avoid Toshibas. My wife has a very nice Windows 7 Laptop. Very few Linux Distros could run from it when she first got it. The last time I tried, with this years crop of Linux, only one could and it required a special boot code [probably could also use the boot code with other distros; but she won't run Linux anyway, so why bother].

to switch off secure boot then linux on dvd flash (grub or lick will run) ???

after readig ur link seems one have to switch off (for usbboot) all like fast boot etc..
