Hi Kiram,

If your bootloader is grub4dos, its main menu will have "Advanced Menu" as it last entry. If you select that, the 2nd entry of the Advanced Menu has a listing whose Title includes " RAM mode\nBoot up Puppy without pupsave". As it indicates, your Puppy will boot without using the SaveFile/Folder as if this was your initial boot into it. So you'll be able to create another.

Alternatives are (a) Edit your boot menu.lst or config file to include a listing which has "pfix=ram" or "pfix=fsck;ram" at the end of the line which begins with "kernel" or (b) as soon as your Puppy begins to boot (you have maybe 4 seconds) tap the ESC key, then type "puppy pfix=ram" without the quotes*.

mikesLr

* I think. It's been a while since I've had to use that formula; and memory isn't my strong suit.

Why not rename one of your saves? Such as, save-kiramm-01, save-kiramm-02, etc? On rebooting Puppy should give you a choice to load a save. Give it a try!

kiramm. First things first!
rename of save x slacko dont work. it doesnt want to be renamed.
Are you attempting to 'rename' while using the same 'live' X-Slacko with a running savefile? Have you tried booting the distro with the usual puppy pfix=ram and then renaming the savefile?
Please try to keep to just one simple question at a time - trying to understand your various problems can be very difficult.

Ah. Booting from a CD and not able to boot "pfix=ram" :(

Per musher0 -- whose post confirmed by flaky recollection:

"At the CD/DVD prompt, type

puppy pfix=ram

and the Puppy will start without the save file, as it was originally." http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 939#954939

Important note: you have about four (4) seconds to start typing.

Kiramm, your posts are becoming even more difficult to read. Almost impossible. Keep it simple. Nor does it help when you cross-post to another area of the forum. I don't want to keep moving across to another topic.

Answer this one question. How are you burning the ISO to disc? Regardless of a CD or DVD. You said ISO. Are you just copying what you have downloaded to disc? What program are you using to perform this action?

Please be clear! Do not wander off on yet another one of your speculative and unintelligible tracks regarding Lick or any other form of Puppy Linux. I'm growing older by the minute; time is precious!

BUT NOT IN THIS THREAD!!!! Nobody is going to go around re-reading everyone of your old topics. All you have to do is give DETAILS of your computer and whatever programs you use. Just how difficult is that ?????

Try this. Boot up using a different Puppy.
like slacko 64 worked i remeber
Or, whatevah. When you have reached the desktop, rename the x-slacko savefile you want and/or need to. Reboot into x-slacko, 'perhaps' a choice of savefiles will appear on startup.
Question: Where is this 'savefile'? Is it on the hard drive or, have you attempted to 'save' to the rewriteable DVD. :x  :?:

Kiramm. Why does the comment box say: "Move"? I was under the impression you wanted to rename the savefile?
Error. Failed to move mnt/home/X-Slacko-3.1/slacko4fs as/ mnt/home.X-Slacko-3.1/slacko4fs

Place cursor on savefile. Right-Click. A menu pop's up. RENAME. Get it ! Only do this if the savefile is not in use.
Screenshot. Why post the whole screen, when all we require is the message box? The text is barely legible - Can't see it! Please crop the image down to what is relevant, then prior to posting, resize it to the forum's 600 pixels.

Kiramm! What the hell is wrong with you?
Nobody wants to see the location of your computer or have the forum cluttered up with a mass of useless images.
All that was asked was for you to resize and enlarge the relevent portion of the desktop image so that the warning box was clearly visible. Like so!

You won't get any more assistance from me ! I suggest you take up French knitting using well boiled spaghetti.

u asked for hardware already several times
now i made it precise and deep
+-->puppy forum likes old pc here visual best advertismet for possible to get trash like mine to be like apple pro fast and more comfort ever
i apologize
i am getting tiered
seems i cant manage to press the right buttons for rename in ur opinion
i think that i renamed a lot of files in my history
maybe that puppy is right and i wrong

also observing that my favorite slack64 needs reboot ram gets full after certain use of google picks
ctr alt backspase not enough
also was told this from other this laptop user
that gets freezing faster than before when scrolling through googlepics which is bbbest working free photoalbum on net

i read somewhere that forum needs feedback of users

i tried to say how me as normal user feel and experience puppy
(users which linux wants to get from windows
but they f.. them so much that they mostly go back to widows )

not like puppy batle starwars shoter geniouis developers

with my normal iq
experience in use of puppy

my iq was officially mesaured as more than normal :))
my mathnaturalscience study studymarks topest
in case u think i am from handicaped mentaly school ;)))))

after 3 years here still i see suspend not work in any ubuntu papy
booting from dvd also not with always same puppyies not
i asume that

i just disturb with my infos about my daily experience

i dont think that u all i this forum are nonstop puppy users like us
other wise suspend would work

for u all seems is puppy olympics sport to make ubuntu to barebones ferrari
not interesting if suspend still works at all
therefore often not even xkill there;)?
just important that has 10byt less on iso :((
if iso boots on every laptopdvdplayer is also not interessting seems

i appologize

and i will just write

if its real urgent

if rename works or not

is now not so important because i discovered that in slacko64 xkill also not work
not from any pet not from ppm fresh updated;)

first must see if in slacko 2.3.2 xkill works

otherise i must through away also this puppy
like all inncl xenial not suspend ubuntus pups

just pitty to loose so much time with getting all ready to see that

-->the most important like xkill suspend not work

ACTAULLY WHY IS NO RATING FOR PUPS PETS SFS + COMENTS OF USERS WITH STAR S LIKE FOR FIREFOX ADDONS ???

the beginner should not get badest experience at once with too lite pups
which are missing xkill suspend or not boot from dvd

later every body +experienced would try courius othe r pupps

fortunately there is kill window with mouse but this xcfe cant do i remeber

i whish u nice spring days

apologize for wasting ur time

its actually eough i waste my life time with hammering pupies around
when my frieds asked me 1 year ago i was keen to install pupy on their pc
this year i observed myself i was not anymore
to much risc that neg can happen with linux at install generally
maybe safest with usb dvd start but still who knows what happens
with angry windows 10 because of switch off of secure boot etc...
linux tutorials reviews on net are not really honest ...;)
with lubuntu instal 1step try ALL my partitts disappeared THANK to rescue pup2.5 they apeared again :)al working

peace and freedom for love for puppy

@ kiramm:-

With regard to
slack64 needs reboot ram gets full after certain use of google picks
.....I think a large part of your problem is the browser cache getting full. If you allow it to, it will completely fill RAM. You do need to periodically clear it, y'know.. (or at least put some kind of limit on it). In Firefox, I usually set the browser cache to no more than 50 MB, max. That's more than ample for most people's needs.
