Does that answer your question musher0?
Forum member "bigpup" asked you this in the 2nd
post, and you did not answer his question, as far as I can tell.
I answered him it was a full install you can see it from my second entry.

Code: Select all

root# googlechrome
/usr/bin/googlechrome: line 2: export: `GOOGLE-CHROME=/opt/google/chrome/google-chrome': not a valid identifier
Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-open.c: 689: _dl_open: Assertion `_dl_debug_initialize (0, args.nsid)->r_state == RT_CONSISTENT' failed!
I could normally use chrome but after bleachbit this shows up.
And google chrome is not the only one there are a lot of other apps
that are not working.
Just another little test: if you click on a triangel on your desktop, does the application start?
as i say some of them are working but many others not.

I just downloaded an image to test and i couldn't see it from my image viewer.

this is more serious. even if i copy the icons from the iso provablely i wouldn't see it. Puppy does not let me see them but, as i say, at arcade puppy i can see all of them. Why?

I guess no app can show any single image
so this makes many apps not working well
Even bleachbit cant start.

According to this making this puppy recognize images again
could make this puppy work fine again?

I had to think about this.
The Mime types, or what is it called?, are unset. It must be something like that.
Maybe not. :?

Yes thank you lolo69 this answers the question.

Sounds as though the gtk/gdk system is broken.

Perhaps try the following:

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders --update-cache
Source: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... ost#722565

This will put the gtk/gdk caches in working order again.

Type the gdk-pixbuf...etc. line in a console and hit Enter.
What happens?

IHTH.

What a surprise!
It is getting funnier all the time... NOT.
Sorry

This is far out of my league. I've no idea what.

Does the menu hold even after reboot?

I've rebooted this like 50 times and it has not changed a bit.

I'm out of ideas.

Except maybe...
file /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/ROX-Filer/globicons could be 0 length or not exist.

Please try:

Code: Select all

ls -Algo /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/ROX-Filer/globicons
Does this file exist? What is its size? TIA.

(This file contains the rules to associate icon X with program X.)

Dare I say it?
Read the third post on this topic from Mike. It is golden. Go the real puppy way (frugal, save and with sfs) and you will prosper.

I read a bit about bleachbit too: it scares me and my Puppies. It discards, wipes, deletes, shreds, it hides traces of files deleted and it vacuums firefox. It is really frightning. What good is all that? I used to do things like that on windows, except XP, but I don't like windows, except XP. ;-)

It should because it is just a link to the .desktop in /usr/share/applications.
No, they are not links to the .desktop files in /usr/share/applications. This explains why he can still start application by clicking on a .desktop file but not by clicking on a ROX desktop shortcut.

@lolo69 Did you read my post?

By the way, maybe contact the people at BleachBit about your problem.

It it is not the 1st time this problem is reported to them, they might have suggestions
about repair.

Just a thought.
