Please provide much more info, e.g. how you did install firefox, on which puppy etc...
EDIT: Overlooked the subject description, see now it's on Precise Puppy 64 Bit

The 59.0.2 version would need it also, from what I understand.

Precise Puppy 64 Bit
What is the exact name?

Enter firefox in a console/terminal and press enter key.
Any error messages?
If Yes.
What?
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

In precise there is a dbus problem with latest firefox:

Code: Select all

# firefox
firefox: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/firefox/libxul.so: undefined symbol: dbus_validate_bus_name
Libraries too old?

LATER: installing libdbus from tahr firefox starts.

Will it work with the versions of dbus/libdbus that currently pop up in PPM?

At this rate, if I ever do decide to try updating beyond 60.0.2 again, I'll have to convince myself to try compiling dbus again. :? Someday, maybe.

(I did grab the .deb you linked to, watchdog. I only mentioned compiling under the theory that if I bothered to compile the latest version of dbus, maybe I wouldn't have to worry about situations like this for a while. I'm sure Mozilla would find some way around that, though, just to spite me.)

watchdog: I tried the .deb, but tried opening FF 60.0.2 to see if it worked before upgrading. All it seemed to do was slow FF to a bare crawl and cause it to become unresponsive, so I uninstalled the .deb (and ended up having to restart the system as well). :(

In another thread OscarTalks said that he used libdbus from wheezy in slacko 5.7 to run firefox 61.0.1.

It's worth a try. Firefox is not my main browser so I'm not going to test anymore.

I'm in precise 5.7.1: a general libdbus upgrade from wheezy does not affect palemoon 27.9.3. Firefox 61.0.1 is very slow and it's unfit to precise in my opinion. But it does work. Libdbus has as dependency only glibc so I think no need to compile it in precise.

I recently upgraded to Firefox 61.0.1 (32-bit) in Precise Puppy 5.7.1., and it would not run. Got the error cited by watchdog. Installed the copy of libdbus he references and now it runs fine.
