Hi Ally

This is an ArtfulPup update....

Did you apply the +16 delta to the original artfulpup-17.11.iso with md5 =
0625cacc699dc6127b1ceea44df5070f

Cheers

I installed to the hard drive of my HP desktop:

Info: Processes: 218 Uptime: 1:37 Memory: 233.2/8092.3MB Client: Shell (bash) inxi: 2.3.56

Installed kpat,vlc,and kodi with PPM.

No problems so far,
Thanks.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT: I had to use "check dependencies installed package" from the
setup menu (for kodi) and installed them with PPM, it's working fine now.
I think doing that may have broken TAS, it gives ffmpeg errors, I
installed PupSnap-2.6_Scrot-0.8_32Bit.pet and that's working fine.

Added pminstaller-0.2.4.tar.bz2 and am running 27.8.1.
Also added smplayer/smtube with PPM and that's working well.

I think this could be my new favorite pup until bionic gets to final
release :)

Thanks.

ArtfulPup (& Upup-Bionic-Beaver-Alpha)

I remastered my ArtfulPup 17.11.16 install:

System: Host: puppypc11962 Kernel: 4.9.59-lxpup-32-pae i686 bits: 32 Desktop: JWM 2.3.7
Distro: ArtfulPup 17.11

Mobo: ACER model: G33T-AM v: 1.0 serial: 00000000 BIOS: American Megatrends v: R01-A4 date: 12/19/2007

Graphics: Card: NVIDIA GF108 [GeForce GT 430]
Display Server: X.Org 1.19.5 driver: nvidia Resolution: 1920x1080@60.00hz, 1920x1080@60.00hz
OpenGL: renderer: GeForce GT 430/PCIe/SSE2 version: 4.5.0 NVIDIA 390.42
Network: Card: Intel 82566DC-2 Gigabit Network Connection driver: e1000e
Drives: HDD Total Size: 626.4GB (1.1% used)
Weather: Conditions: 27 F (-3 C) - Mostly Cloudy Time: March 18, 9:34 PM EDT
Info: Processes: 197 Uptime: 21 min Memory: 183.4/8097.4MB Client: Shell (bash) inxi: 2.3.37

After booting on my Acer from another pup I mounted the remaster dvd
and copied everything to a folder, ran grub-4-dos and rebooted to the
remaster.
Surprised me when it booted up :)

I loaded the devx and kernel source sfs's, blacklisted nouveau, and
rebooted, then installed the newest Nvidia driver.
It gave an error about kernel source mismatch but it seems to be working
okay.

The size of the remaster iso was just over 800 mb.

EDIT: screenshot2 is the remaster dvd running on macmini, gives option to save at end of session.

bluetooth

#547 Post by petihar »

Good morning,
I know that operating Bluetooth with a puppy is a real challenge... If someone managed to take up this challenge with ArtfullPup or Upup-Bionic, what are the packages to install to make this bluetooth work easily and correctly?
Sincerely yours, petihar.

+6 delta applied, md5sum of generated iso correct, normal +5 to +6 update on my i5 based laptop. No change on the Glib errors or glxgears front. I'll run with it as daily for a bit.

Thanks,
Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.

Added applications with PPM + pminstaller-0.2.4.tar.bz2
Kodi still segfaults,but kpat,vlc-3.01,smplayer/smtube okay.
Added "intel_pstate=disable" to the kernel line of the menu.lst file.

Thanks.

hi peebee,

it's looking good.!

concerning those glib errors. i noticed that reinstalling 'libglib' fixed most of them so had a look the debs 'postinst' script.
and adding the following to '_00build.conf' sorts it .....

Code: Select all

usr/lib/glib-2.0/glib-compile-schemas usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas || true
usr/lib/glib-2.0/gio-querymodules usr/lib/gio/modules || true
you still get the odd warning, mainly from non natively compiled apps, but it certainly clears up xerrs.log quite a bit.

also 'libglx-mesa0' needs adding for glxgears & 3d to work.

cheers

Thanks Phil - much appreciated - both changes are in:

delta +7
iso md5 = 85803a63a215a854dcfeec3237704254 Upup_Bionic_Beaver-18.03+7.iso

Also loads of upstream UBB changes.

Warnings are definitely reduced, but leafpad still gives:
# leafpad
(leafpad:10062): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: 16:22:47.834: Two different plugins tried to register 'GLibProxyResolver'.

+6 updated to +7 on the i5 laptop. Direct rendering now exists with smoother scrolling in browser. glxgears now runs albeit with much lower FPS than I would expect from this laptop, 1100 FPS vs 8700 in other pups on this hardware. I'll look at what renderer is used vs other pups later.

In ArtfulPup, irregardless of the kernel used, the renderer info is:

Renderer: Mesa PRI Intel(R) SandyBridge Mobile X86/MMX/SSE2

In ubb, also irregardless of the kernel used the renderer info is:
Vendor: VMware Inc.
Renderer: livmpipe (LLVM 6.0)
Version: 3.0 Mesa 18.0.0-rc5

My guess is that this is the difference in glxgears FPS.

UBB-Pup- 18.03+6

#554 Post by sszindian »

UBB-Pup 18.03+6

I realize it's early in the development of this new pup but since it seems to handle very well all of my 'need' programs brought over from other pup's I figured I'd give Google Earth a shot... My old favorite- Google Earth 6.2.2.sfs runs so well in other pup's I tried that first... Splash Screen appears but the main program does not run? Tried several other versions of Google Earth.sfs's with no success either! Hopefully it gotta be something simple?

I am running BionicPup delta 6 with Apache2 or Hiawatha 10.8 PHP 7.2.3 MariaDB to test PHP 7.2 compatibility in ZoneMinder 1.30.4 and more importantly the development versions 1.31.+

I am using the ArtfulPup 17.11 devx... is there a BionicPup devx? or does one exist?

Still chasing the fallback to the software direct rendering on the i5 hardware running ubbpup. On the i5 hardware in ArtfulPup the loading looks like:

Code: Select all

# LC_ALL=C LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxinfo | grep DRI
libGL: Can't open configuration file /root/.drirc: No such file or directory.
libGL: pci id for fd 4: 8086:0126, driver i965
libGL: OpenDriver: trying /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/dri/tls/i965_dri.so
libGL: OpenDriver: trying /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/dri/i965_dri.so
libGL: Can't open configuration file /root/.drirc: No such file or directory.
libGL: Using DRI3 for screen 0
libGL: Can't open configuration file /root/.drirc: No such file or directory.
Device: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Sandybridge Mobile x86/MMX/SSE2 (0x126)
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Sandybridge Mobile x86/MMX/SSE2
libGL: Can't open configuration file /root/.drirc: No such file or directory.
libGL: Can't open configuration file /root/.drirc: No such file or directory.
In Bionic Beaver it is:

Code: Select all

# LC_ALL=C LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxinfo | grep DRI
libGL: screen 0 does not appear to be DRI2 capable
libGL: OpenDriver: trying /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/dri/tls/swrast_dri.so
libGL: OpenDriver: trying /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/dri/swrast_dri.so
libGL: Can't open configuration file /root/.drirc: No such file or directory.
libGL: Can't open configuration file /root/.drirc: No such file or directory.
Could it be a libGL problem also? Identical hardware in the above runs of course.
Edit: Later, ubb+7 fails in exactly the same way as above on Bay Trail (intel J1900 CPU & intel i9xx video) hardware.

I've done 2 saves to the dvd so far, setting up kodi, smtube, and
palemoon then saving.

It's working well but unless it's changed I think 2 saves is the limit.

Eventmanager still broken for moving drive icons

#559 Post by davids45 »

G'day peebee,

Bionic+7 still has poor startup for my desktop.

The problems are in the eventmanager version in /usr/sbin.
I don't think this is a Bionic/Ubuntu problem.

At first start (screenshot), my drive icons run off the bottom of the monitor as I have too many for two columns.

Trying to reset these to run across the bottom of the screen fails because the Drive Icon option in Desktop Settings (i.e. eventmanager) is broken - plus its 'OK' button does not work (screenshot).

By 'restarting X', this tries to implement the re-postioning by eventmanager but fails again. Only the drive b (sdb) icons move - sda partitions stay in a left-side column (screenshot).

From past failures in the BionicPups, I can fix this by deleting the present eventmanager in /usr/sbin/ and replacing it with a Xenial version (screenshot).

BK's script of eventmanager has changed from Xenial to Bionic - I don't know if this is a woof problem or is just in these early BionicPup alphas.

I also see the 'Open file' window clutter problem (displaying unusable 'Places' in the 'Open file' window's left panel) which I fix by deleting everything in /etc/fstab.

After doing these fixes, I have set up Bionic+7 as I like to have a Pup on this computer, although with all my (.pet) applications, the pinboard stops loading too soon so I need to re-start the pinboard after it has apparently done everything, but hasn't (screenshots).

I'll do a remaster as a last adjustment so BionicPup+7 does everything I need/want.

"Is it just me...?"
As a cross-check, I'd appreciate someone else on the Forum with Bionic trying a drive icon re-alignment in BionicPup Desktop Settings (change from left to bottom display), particularly if a second drive (ie sdb as well as sda) is involved - and if their 'OK' button does anything.
Maybe I should check my original Bionic iso download since eventmanager has been failing in that and all subsequent updates?

Thanks,

David S.

with so many partitions, columns are no good if only 2 available - but I prefer across the bottom for the drives

OK button does nothing here also. I only have 2 to 4 drives as a rule so I left them in the default location til now. I just used the event manager to try to relocate them both to bottom or right and in both cases the OK button did nothing. Not a pristine boot but I haven't mucked about with the desktop as I'm much more familiar with lxde and XFCE4 and I have a tendency to break JWM if I venture too far.
Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.
