Subject description: (Solved)

I am using Tahrpup 6.0.5. Until recently, everything worked correctly. Starting about two weeks ago, whenever I try to log in to my Amazon account, the browser closes. I have verified that this happens with Pale Moon, Seamonkey and Firefox (all latest versions). It does not, however, happen with Chromium.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue or can throw some light on the problem?

I will ask about PaleMoon, because it is default browser for Tahrpup.

Using the latest version of Palemoon? V27.5.0?

I realized that Pale Moon was not at the latest version so I have updated it. Unfortunately, it had no effect on the problem.

I did run Firefox using the firefox --jconsole command from a terminal. It gave me several pages of error messages which told me nothing about the problem. Should I post them here?

For firefox, the default profile(s) is in /root/.mozilla/firefox/xxxxxx.default

Make a backup en delete them. Test again if crash. Regard.

My Firefox version is 56.0.
Normally, when I click the "browse" icon on my desktop, 3 windows open at 3 different pages [I have it arranged to do that], the Puppy forums being one.
I normally log in and fetch a list of all new threads.
Then I fetch my emails and click on the 1st link to a Puppy forums thread new post unseen by me.
That is when Firefox crashes, and all windows are gone.
When I log in to the Puppy forums once more, and attempt to fetch threads with new posts, I'm informed that there are no new/unread posts. [as expected given the circumstance]
Very inconvenient! Sad

All is well provided I only open the 3 Firefox windows.

I am not really having these issues, using the latest version of PaleMoon. Whatever it is at the time.

Does this forum still have a Flash Player type add in the upper right of the main page?
I ask, because I do not use or have the Flash Player plugin, in PaleMoon and I see no add, when I first access the forums main page.

That could be the cause.
I see several Google topics, that deal with Flash Player, causing the browser to crash, for no reason and at any time.
Seems to be any of the popular browsers.

Who knows how old that add is and based on what.

Hmm, for what it's worth, I haven't seen any ads in Puppy for a long time. I'm using SeaMonkey in Quirky Werewolf 64-bit and YouTube videos play just fine.

OK, that add is no longer.

All the stuff I watch on YouTube is using HTML5 to play videos.
The browser needs no add-ons to play them.

I hoped bigpup was on to something! I had Flash Player installed. I uninstalled it and restarted Pale Moon. Unfortunately, no change still crashes whenever I open the Amazon login page.

No problems for me logging into Amazon with either SeaMonkey 2.48 or PaleMoon 27.4.2. I'm running TahrPup 6.0.6. I do have Flash installed (27.0.0.130), if that matters.

This has gotten interesting! I found a website which suggested a "lighter" Amazon website by enter "https://amazon.com/access". I tried it, and it brought up Amazon's website, but with less "glitzy" appearance, and it did solve the crashing problem.

According to the author of the website, all I needed to do to get back to the original site was clear my cache. That didn't work. Now all I get when I go to Amazon.com is the "lighter" site.

The interesting part is I used Pale Moon, but the change propagated to Seamonkey and Firefox without me doing anything in those two browsers. Chromium was unaffected.

My only guess as to what is happening is that Amazon stores the setting somehow in my account, and that it doesn't distinguish between the three browsers since they are all based on Mozilla code.

Amazon could be storing cookies or God knows what outside the browser's cache. What happens if you boot a Puppy CD with the puppy pfix=ram boot option and then log into Amazon?

Been gone for at last a couple of years, bigpup.....ever since John Murga switched to co-hosting the forum with some of his other stuff, and the server got an upgrade.

Well, I know I had not seen it for some time.
Just figured it was because I do not use Flash Player.
Thanks for info!
