Subject description: handcrafted from the finest ones and zeroes

The latest commercial release of Studio 13.37 is available, with the latest and greatest of everything, a new realtime kernel, and compatibility with Ubuntu packages.

Studio 13.37 is now based on Xenialpup, and can run almost all commercial Linux apps and plugins. It comes with WINE-rt and PlayOnLinux for compatibility with Windows software, and includes an autoinstall script for downloading and installing REAPER to use VST plugins natively. Under the hood, we've got a new 4.9.35-rt kernel, with tested compatibility with newer Line6 devices such as the POD HD500X. Everything's configured out of the box for a realtime pro audio studio, including rt-irq and the usual performance tweaks. Easily boots on EFI-enabled computers. It comes with a slick UI built on openbox, the JACK Software Suite, the usual selection of great apps, including Kdenlive and OpenShot video editors, Firefox, etc.

For those wanting Cadence/Carla from KXstudio, I've packaged an sfs, which you can download here (md5sum).

You can support the development of Studio 13.37 by purchasing a copy of 3.0 at studio1337.pro

Thanks to everyone that helped contribute to this release. You know who you are. Smile

I think that such a nice promotion thread should at least provide some hints to what Studio is and what is does. Question

This may be a great product, but this forum is for the release and promotion of free Linux software, specifically Puppy Linux!!

All I can make out of this is something only offered for money.
If you developed this with the help of people on this forum, you did them a great disservice!

I consider this a commercial product and the topic should be removed from the forum.!!

Prove me wrong!!

This subforum is for derivatives, the title does not
include the words free or commercial.

On a broader scale, it's crucial that cutting edge and
innovative releases get solid promotional coverage,
unless you want puppy linux to remain a backwater distro
into the ages. Don't be bitter, when you can be better.

Nothing is free. Coding software without a selling price
still costs the coder, the coders family, friends, and business,
many prime time hours.

Plenty of coders like being a big fish in a small pond,
and their arrogance can be far
more an issue than paying $50 for an excellent product.
Cheers

Trying the link would be a good start, but in a nutshell, for those
(hopefully many new puppy users) unfamiliar, Studio 1337
uses a puppy linux base, and builds a system of linux
audio/video apps, which are compiled on a custom realtime kernel,
and run in ram, to maximize audio/video production performance and stability, in a friendly and affordable environment.

If you are a musician who also values your time at the pizzeria,
the fishing hole, the golf course, the skating rink,
the home-theater, the ball game, the movie house,
the tavern, the church, and just getting computer production done
without hassles or dropouts, then Studio 1337 should be
a no-brainer. The price is trivial compared to ones
finite supply of 24 hour days, in which to create something
memorable, before the lights go out in this life.

Cheers

Congrats, l0wt3ch! Looks great.

I'm curious as to how well Reaper actually performs in Studio 13.37 3.0 (under Wine - correct?) - I've been happily using Reaper for many years in Windows, and could easily see myself migrating to a Puppy/Reaper-based DAW if performance/stability were comparably good.

Thanks,

Bob

I think it's weird to see this too. If nothing in it was created by l0wt3ch specifically, I guess it wouldn't be hard to release a free version with all the same things in it. Twisted Evil

Most linux distros are shovel-ware, stack all the apps you can
in an iso, hope you've included all the dependencies, then dance
before the update altars, and hope a new gcc doesn't strike it all dead.

Really, there are a lot of apps hand compiled to a custom RT kernel,
multiple audio subsystems to integrate, and if you're not expert in wrestling
such beasts, your system timings will be in a civil war very quickly.
You don't make a 1337 in a weekend.

And then there are custom kernel modules, scripting to install
popular software, an sfs file for Carla, devx, and much more that
I'm personally oblivious to, as I can barely code microwave popcorn.

Hi, there has been heavy heavy developement of linux Reaper,
and the windows version under wine has been helped by heavy
audio developement at wineHQ, a Kontakt user joined the wine team,
and a new vst wrapper, LinVst is under continual deverlopement,
and Airwave, an older wrapper, no recent update, is still quite capable.
X42 (part of Harrison Mixbus team) is now working on an LV2 wrapper,
which works on many such plugins, in the very early release.

The linvst developer (osxmidi) did some thorough comparisons of reaper in wine
vs in windows, on both old and newer computers, and found the 'hit'
imposed by wine, is laregly mythical. And using commonly available
low-latency or RT kernels helped accordingly. Even weak older systems
have been shown capable to achieve low latencies. This echos my personal
experiences during many happy reaper sessions over a long run.

The advantage of an excellent custom RT kernel intensifies as your
projects and the software you use, become more demanding.
Both the linux and windows reapers will be a pleasure to use.

The vst wrappers LinVst and Airwave are independantly maintained,
and each takes a different path to the same destination, having
windows vst .dll plugins presented as linux native vsts with .so extensions,
which most of the big-name linux daws can use, reaper, ardour/mixbus. bitwig,
tracktion, qtractor etc links, disscussions (devs included) are at

I recently have tested the latest plugin release from Line 6, Helix multi-fx,
and it runs fine in both the distros I've tested it in. Hopefully I can test
things in Studio 13.37 V 3.0 before too long. Helix demo registers you
computer when online, but I've read the account requires a 6 character
or fewer password...but the Helix is pretty amazing software by the latest standards.

Blue Cat's new effects rack 'LateReplies' cracks the shells on my i7 cores, sucks their juices, chews them up, and finally spits out the sounds, an example of how the latest and best dsp really is designed for, and needs the best RT system available.
Pipedreams just a few years back!

The linux port of reaper is just a tarball you unpack in any
modern linux, and use

a2jmidid -j default

for jack-midi connections.

Good luck!

Wonderful information, ciento - thank you!! Cool Looks like I have a fair amount of experimenting to get started on! Thanks for the useful links, too - very informative.

That - one of my biggest concerns - is very promising to hear!
