YASSM in LXpup won't show shares, shows hidden@noname

#1 Post by rmcellig1 »

I booted from my newly created LXpup 16.08 and noticed that Yassm will not show my shares. All I see is hidden@noname. Even after I create a save folder and reboot into it I still see hidden@noname. How do I resolve this issue?

Thanks!!

YASSM uses two tools from Samba to identify share names - nmblookup and smbclient. Standard Puppies should already have them.

Run them for a command line and see what happens.

All I get is a Usage list for both nmblookup and smbclient. Is there something else I need to do?

Just to be clear: Does YASSM work for you with standard Puppies? Name the newest one.

Which version of YASSM are you using?

Also, YASSM needs the tool pnscan. Do you have it?

If not, get it by installing PeasyPort. This is probably the problem.

Tahr pup 6.0.5 works great. Same goes for Slacko, the latest version.

I am using 2.7 but I also tried 2.9. Doesn't work using LXPup 16.08

I just installed Peasyport and I think I am getting somewhere. When I bring up Yassm I how get

hidden@SAGE.com
hidden@HP80001 which is one of my computers
hidden@litemac which is one of my computers
hidden@LXpup which is the one I am on now.

I also had that problem with the shares showing as @hidden so I stopped using yassm-search.
I always click file - network - network (smb-share) (the blue thing) and it scans and finds all my shares - asking for username/password for each share and saves them - and then mounts them on boot.

@rmcellig1: I expect that your new problem has to do with the version of smblient in LxPup.

There have been many changes since yassm v2.7, so I really can't comment.

But you can try this: get the copy of /usr/bin/smbclient from a working Puppy and drop it into LxPup.

Run smblient from the command line. If it's OK, run yassm-search.

@rmcellig1:

I set up LxPupSc-17.07.1T, installed PeasyPort (just in case) and the new YASSM v4.0 from here..

It worked correctly for me.

Apple shares

#11 Post by rmcellig1 »

I have two Apple shares that have the SMB option selected. Other Linux distros don't have any problems accessing these shares. How can I access them through YASSM. I'm using Xenialpup.

You need to describe step-by-step what you are doing and where the problem appears.

Is the problem specific to the Apple shares? Can you mount Windows or Puppy shares?

Do you have the firewall running?
You cannot type spaces as part of a share name when connecting. In place of any space in the share name, use %20 .
Is this the problem?

I can access all of the shares I have on my other Linux machines from my xenialpup USB flash drive.

On my iMac I set up an SMB share that my other Linux computers see. I'm running Linux mint on those.

When I boot from my xenialpup USB stick go to network yassm search I don't see my iMac share listed at all. Only the shares I have on my other computers. Like I mentioned before I'm using yassm 4.1.

I do not have the firewall running.

I don't know what you mean by that. YASSM 4.1 no longer does network searches.

Please get the newest YASSM here so we are both on the same page.

Also, get the newest PeasyPort here.

@ Bill:-

I think he means the YASSM share search menu entry, under Menu->Network.

I could be wrong, of course....but I concur (I appreciate where you're coming from). Some people aren't always careful about how well they construct their written sentences, especially grammar. I find it makes it hard to comprehend, sometimes.....and 'text-speak' is the worst of all.

I abhor 'text-speak'..!!

That menu entry is a relic of a previous version.

V4.x assumes that you know where your shares are, or can find them with PeasyPort. YASSM's only job now is to mount a known share.

This is explained in the new 4.x documentation.
