Which Puppy was I using before it cratered?

#1 Post by Electrojim »

I had been using an old laptop with Puppy, and never really paid attention to what distro it was. I say 'was' because the laptop exploded (literally) last week, and as the OS was on the hard drive. It's all gone now.

I'd been using it for over a year, and believe that it was Lucid Puppy, but am not sure. If it serves as a hint, I recall when I installed it I was asked if I wanted to go ahead and install the SeaMonkey browser, which I did, and which I liked. I also recall that there were some various other "do you want..." options offered; it was a very friendly installer to a longtime, forced-Windows user and I'd like to get it back. Thanks!

So, what is the computer you want to use?
Make and model?
Or do you know the specs?

The computer works, but no hard drive?

That sounds like Lucid Puppy.

The latest version is Lucid 5.2.8.7

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected
YaPI(any iso installer)

Do you still have the installation medium (CD, USB stick, ...) that you used to put Puppy on that computer?

It's possible that this was a version of Lucid Puppy - Lucid has a dialog that lets you pick a browser to install, unlike other Puppies which usually have one pre-installed; typically Seamonkey or Palemoon. I have included screenshots of the 2 Lucid versions I have here (5.2.5 and 5.2.8.7) - does any of this look familiar?

You can find many Puppies here:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/
Anything from the "puppy-5.0" folder to "puppy-5.2.8" is Lucid. For the more recent version 5.2.8.7, look at the link bigpup posted above.

Thanks, guys; Lucid it was. I'll download it; essentially starting from scratch.
