Prosím mám notebook IBM Thinkpad 760XL který bootuje jen z FDD mechaniky. Sehnal jsem spouštěcí disketu linuxu, ale dále mě linux nejde nainstalovat
mám tu spouštěcí disketu spustím instalaci pak zvolím boot z CD začne to načítat a pak start vslinux.................
a poté černá obrazovka a za chvíli to napíše tuto hlášku:

Loading drivers needed to access disk drivers.. done
Searching for Puppy files.......puppy_wary_5.3.sfs not found.Dropping out to initial
-ramdisk console

Mám CD vypálené jako ISO

Děkuji moc za radu

Please have an IBM Thinkpad 760XL notebook that only boots from the FDD drive. I got the linux boot disk, but linux can not install me
I have a boot floppy boot install then choose boot from CD it will start loading and then start vslinux .................
And then the black screen, and in a while she writes this message:

Loading drivers needed to access disk drivers.. done
Searching for Puppy files.......puppy_wary_5.3.sfs not found.Dropping out to initial
-ramdisk console

I have a CD burned as an ISO

Thank you very much for your advice

It looks like you have some beta version of Wary Puppy 5.3 because it's looking for version 5.2.2. Download the iso of an official release.

The name of the base sfs should be puppy_wary_5.2.2.sfs according to initrd.gz of that puppy you want to boot. Make sure that this is correct by checking the contents of the iso you burnt to cd or the files on the cd itself. If that is the problem you will need to rename it, probably make a new iso and burn it to cd. The easier solution is just to download the iso of an official release as mentioned earlier and burn that to cd. If the name of the base sfs is correct and you still get that message at boot, then your hardware is too old to run Wary (which is probably the case anyway as the maximum RAM for your model is 104MB according to wikipedia). Puppy 412 is probably the best you can hope for on that machine.

You can download Puppy 412 from 412collection.neocities.org/os. Burn the iso to cd, boot from cd and make full install to hdd using the installer application from menu.

One possibility worth looking into is whether the boot medium just has only the core kernel boot files e.g. vmlinuz, initrd.gz (and the small config files eg isolinux.cfg , syslinux.cfg) yet with the other SFS archives containing the rest of the system located elsewhere.

Any Puppy Linux versions I have used only look for the corresponding application archive e.g puppy_wary_5.3.sfs in the same medium (e.g DVD, Hard Drive) as Puppy was booted from. If that is the case then the pmedia parameter can be passed on the kernel command line (press F2 at boot to access) and add pmedia=atahd (or wherever the SFS file is located)

Thank you, this is really a special notebook, of course, that the laptop can not run that linux. This again ends with this message:

What did you use to burn the iso to CD? You must make 100% sure that the base sfs is correctly named as pup_412.sfs. Such a file with that exact name must be on your cd. Also - if you somehow can copy pup_412.sfs to the hard drive, puppy may be able to pick it up at boot time.

No snad to mám dobře vypálené, je to CD ISO takže mám nějak nakopírovat

pup_412.sfs na HDD v jiném notebooku? A ten HDD musím nejprve naformátovat, a jaký formát?

Well maybe I got it well burned, it's CD ISO so I can copy it somehow

Pup_412.sfs on HDD in another laptop? And I need to format the HDD first, and what format? Sad Sad

Sorry, I thought you had a hard drive on that laptop. Anyways, if you only have the CD drive that can host the operating system, then you only have that choice. Can you check on another computer if the names of the files are correct on the cd you burnt? If it is correct and won't boot, then you have a problem and puppy won't work on your machine (your hardware is really ancient). By the way - if you do get it to boot, it's going to take a LOOOONG time to boot from CD on that machine. Another problem is that you have so little RAM that you will have to work with a swapfile or swap partition but you don't have a hard drive to create it on. Not going to work, your system will probably freeze (even if you are lucky enough to get it to boot).

Some further suggestions as parameters for booting Puppy Linux and telling it where the SFS file is:

Code:
pmedia=cd

Code:
pmedia=usbcd

Code:
pmedia=satacd

Code:
pupsfs=sr0:/pup_412.sfs

Code:
pupsfs=sr0:/PUP_412.SFS

The last two commands represent the possibility that the pup_412.sfs is seen by the system in uppercase and that the search for it is case sensitive.

The following links have more info on the the pmedia= and pupsfs= boot parameters. Obviously I can't be sure that an older distro even accepts them but there is no harm in trying.

Radovan-kocour, awesome to have this machine and trying to get it to work!!

I found this thread:http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=32197
It mentions meanpup (from John Murga!). Worth trying?
You can still find it on archive.org or puppylinux.ca:
