Subject description: and that is kinda weird

When I boot puppy, Retrovol - the volume icon on the taskbar shows up - but only for a split second and then just disappears ??

There IS a retrovol.desktop file in .config/autostart - and if I click that - it shows up fine.

I,ve tried to remove/add it from setup-startup-manage startup-apps but no change.

Any ideas anyone?

Sure you did the remaster correctly and got everything needed?

look for this file. It is a hidden file in /root

.retrovolrc

Open in text editor.

Check for correct setting for tray.

Code:
# Enable the tray_icon
#enable_tray_icon=1

# Enable the tray_menu
#enable_tray_menu=1

# Background color of tray_icon (default is default GTK background color).  Note:  the commandline -bg option overrides this
#tray_icon_background_color=#CCCCCC

# Set this to 1 to make the slider on the tray_icon vertical, or 0 for horizontal
#tray_slider_vertical=1

# Tray slider dimensions
#tray_slider_width=20
#tray_slider_height=102
#tray_slider_offset=-1

# Which slider to link with the tray_icon, identified by numid
#tray_control=37
tray_control=30

Subject description: no go

The .retrovolrc file gets created in root if I start retrovol and then click "config window" and make some changes - doesnt seem to be a problem there.
And retrovol starts fine if I restart graphical server. But on bootup/reboot - the icon just appears - first muted, then with the speaker-lines - and then it vanishes.
(also tried with new save-file to no avail)

I messed around creating a script in /my-applications/bin - with
sleep 5
/usr/bin/retrovol

and then a .desktop file in .config/autostart which executed the script - and that works - but then retrovols main window shows - up, so have to close it.

So I just dragged the retrovol.desktop to the desktop - and just click it after bootup - same differerence.

Not a major problem this tho.
Thanx

You should be able to start retrovol without the main window by using the command:
Code:
retrovol -hide
.

Thanx ! That worked Smile

But had to have:

Code:
#!/bin/sh
sleep 10
retrovol -hide

Without the "sleep 10" line same thing happened - well - the retrovol window showed up and then disappeared along with the icon.
Now - the volume icon just shows up after 10 seconds. Beautiful Wink
Kind regards !

In my case (Quirky Werewolf 64 bit) the speaker (volume) icon disappears if I reduce the volume to zero (by resting the cursor on the icon and using the scroll wheel to decrease the volume) and reappears when I increase it again. Even though the speaker icon is not there, the space it occupies seems to remain active and I can increase the volume again by twiddling the scroll wheel while resting the cursor in the blank space where the speaker used to be.

Thanks for that tidbit of info, Flash..!

All this time I've been using Pup, and I never even realised you could scroll on the volume icon. I've always brought the volume 'bar' up, then clicked.....and moved the cursor up & down the bar to where I wanted it.

You live & learn. Cheers, mate.

Hey Mike and Flash - Very nifty indeed - I also never knew u could scroll the voume up/down Smile Cool !

Oh and just for my own curiosity - I removed the script - just to see if it was the same for me as for u Flash - but didnt work. Retrovol WAS gone. (not just invisible)

Oh and :
Code:
sleep 3
in the script was perfect - then it shows up right after it disappears Smile

EDIT 7 aug 2017:
Its a monday. In the midlle of the day. Was drunk yesterday, so I decided to just KEEP ON drinking wine. So far that has worked out great ! peace and love to all sexy puppypeople Smile https://youtu.be/W01OQ0iVeZ4
