slacko-700 rc3
slacko-700 rc3
I downloaded and installed the slacko64-6.9.9.9-uefi-k3.16-PM-LO.iso.
After installing favorite applications some (kodi, vlc) wouldn't run.
I changed the kernel to the newest 4.4.159 and it works much better.

I did all the Update Notices - Slackware Bugfixes.
Updated Palemoon to the latest version, added Firefox 60.2.2esr which was one of the Update Notices.
Added the newest pulse audio from BLFS and sound works in Firefox, not sure if pulse or the dependency
listed as a must have fixed sound.
It's working well,
I like it

EDIT: I cleaned up "the look" of one of my clones of this install
that runs on another HP desktop.
Great fun

I tried another Slacko64 woof-CE build on my dad's Core2Duo laptop today
http://www.mediafire.com/folder/04k8b8812ccoh/testing
It has Palemoon 28.1 and Abi/Gnumeric in the adrv and kernel 4.9 with linux-firmware (default options) in zdrv.

Hello Sailor, thanks for this build. I tried it on my recent i5 laptop.Sailor Enceladus wrote:I tried another Slacko64 woof-CE build on my dad's Core2Duo laptop today

It takes a lot of time to get to X after all is loaded. It waits for a minute or more on a black screen with just a cursor on left top corner. It may need a few keystrokes to continue, at least that is what I do: hit a few keys.
I changed to kernel and zdrv.sfs from the build of micko and that boots up fine.
Strange, because that is almost the same kernel.
I had to do the same with the previous build you offered.
Maybe it has something to do with the Core2Duo laptop you built it for and with.
I works very well otherwise. Still have to find another bug.

As you can see, my Kernel is 4.9.30 x86_64 (64 bit gcc: 5.3.0).
In my understanding the kernel in the PPM 4.4.157 should be older, or am I wrong?
If not, I'd like to know how to update. Via PPM in downloading kernel-huge, kernel-modules and kernel-headers? Also kernel-source? That's it? Or do I have to execute the change_kernels script? If so, what exactly and where to enter?
Thanks for any help.
regards,
stefan
Re: slacko-700 rc3
The build that @Sailor did uses the newest 4.9.131 kernel, he supplies the devx and kernel source sfs as well.stefan21 wrote: As you can see, my Kernel is 4.9.30 x86_64 (64 bit gcc: 5.3.0).
It comes with Palemoon but I added Firefox with PPM.

slacko-700 rc3
I downloaded slacko64-6.9.9.9-uefi-k4.4-FF-LO.iso and devx_slacko64_6.9.9.9.sfs this morning from the 1st page of the slacko-700 rc3 thread this morning.
Then updated PPM and ran the Update Notices - Slackware Bug fixes entry in the Setup menu.
Did all the updates, (there are a lot of them) installed some applications with PPM and changed the kernel with one that I compiled with the kernel kit in woof-CE using the change kernel command from the terminal.
I'm happy with the result, done it a few times lately so getting better at it I guess

Updated PPM and ran the Update Notices - Slackware Bug fixes entry in the Setup menu.
Did all the updates, installed some applications with PPM and changed the kernel with one that I compiled with the kernel kit in woof-CE using
the change_kernel script from the terminal, installed the proprietary Nvidia driver.

Thanks foxpup. If you ever find out the difference between the kernels that is causing the problem I would love to know. I wonder if the output of the commands in "Known Issues" 01micko wrote in the first post will give any clues. I did have a hang in a few kernels because my wifi driver was missing, I think wdlkmpx has made a workaround for this since though.foxpup wrote:Hello Sailor, thanks for this build. I tried it on my recent i5 laptop.Sailor Enceladus wrote:I tried another Slacko64 woof-CE build on my dad's Core2Duo laptop today
http://www.mediafire.com/folder/04k8b8812ccoh/testing
It has Palemoon 28.1 and Abi/Gnumeric in the adrv and kernel 4.9 with linux-firmware (default options) in zdrv.
Slack0 64bit
Hi Sailor Enceladus!
Using your Slack0 64 build with the- 4.9.131 kernel... very impressive indeed over the original 6.9.9 !!! 'Nice work'
So far in testing, only thing I can't seem to get is Pwidgets to show on the desktop? Appreciate any help with that.
EDIT: Found the simple fix myself... Make Sure Your Pwidgets Is A 64bit Version!!!
'thanks'

Hi sszindian,
Not to diminish in anyway the great work Sailor Enceladus does --I frequently use and recommend his slacko 5.7.1. But we should not forget that 01micko published the original version of slacko-700 --as he had done with all slackos-- solving those problems inherent with any original creation; and, AFAIK, for a long time spear-headed the improvements to woof, the building tool used to create any Puppy.

blindly gave it to "git clone" to clone submodules when "git clone
--recurse-submodules" was used to clone a project that has such a
submodule. The code has been hardened to reject such malformed URLs
(e.g. one that begins with a dash). Credit for finding and fixing this

I wonder if we should have a "slacko contribute thread". Anyway, in this regards I created the following pet:
mercurial-3.7-x86_64.pet which I built in Slacko64-6.9.9.9. This is an older version then is available on the puppy package manager. I did so because a mercurial plugin that I wanted to use requires an older version of mercurial.
see thread.
