No answer about removing Alexandra from the menu.. app tested and removed.
I will post in bugs topic, for an answer.

You develop inside, in summers and winters. We use our laptops outside, mainly on holidays, if sun is shining and some wifi point around.
Trains, railways stations, post office and... bars will provide access.

Over the past year, people complain about Puppy itself falling & breaking down, or losing its way----well----how are they supposed to think otherwise when this, Slacko 700, the "flagship" murga/puppy offering, is so darn buggy?? Most of us who post here are fairly proficient users/builders, and if we can't get it to run correctly, I can't imagine what happens to all the other normal users when they download Slacko 700. They've gotta be frustrated as heck , and trying, possibly helplessly, to return to the old, stable versions (as Pelo mentions) of Slacko.

I know this sounds heretical: possibly Slacko 700 can be stated/removed as the "flagship" Murga-linux offering, and the mantle on murga be passed to Peebee and his excellent LxPupSc offering---something which he keeps up-to-date & stays on top of like a bull on top of a cow-in-heat

In my mind, Puppy kind of died when BK retired from it. Anything put out now I just accept that it is what it is. I don't blame Micko's if he has other priorities, or Phil for checking out. A project is never the same without the founder. Sad but true.

Like what was talked about before, a big problem now is fragmentation, or lack of focus on an official mainline Puppy that everyone can get behind. But I feel more comfortable with Slacko as the mainline, its got the pedigree.(I still have the good old 5.7 installed in many places) Never really took to Tahr, but realize that was the more popular one. And the popular one gets more users, which gets more user testing, which gets more bug fixes. Peebee's LxPup is great stuff too, but that is not mainline Puppy, but a darn fine derivative.

And like what Pelo said, right now you have many people making Pups out of Woof-CE, but it's just kind of spit out there and that's it. To make a good distro, you have to bug fix and user support for a main version. Not as fun as just cranking out stuff, more boring and mundane, but that's what it takes to be a good popular distro.

Woof was supposed to be a tool to build a Puppy for release, with Puppy itself the main product or goal. Right now with Woof-CE, it kind of exists as its own product, a Puppy construction set toy that can spit out all kinds of Pups. It lives to serve itself, not a main Puppy distro release that is solid and stable and supported.

I see a lot of complaints about recent Puppys, but 01micko and others have done a great job moving puppy into x64 and ARM land, and people are free to contribute fixes via GitHub... it's just that most puppy users can't be bothered to learn how .. and THAT is what slows development... other distros can rely on hundreds of users who know git. shell, etc .. puppy devs dont have that luxury.. plus they have to work, barry is retired.. it would be nice if barry sometimes did a PR for woofCE ..

I agree with the above - that building pups from so many different sources creates a lot of complexity ... better to focus on a couple only, I think .. My choice would be T2(if its alive?), Slackware, CRUX, Debian, Ubuntu .. Or whatever 3 or 4 work best.

What you write in that long post is pretty much spot on. Puppy is far from dead - it remains the centre of creative development on Puppy forum, and its the forum members who need to get working on improving woof-CE, which is the core of Puppy. We don't need remastered Pups as much as properly working woof-CE branches with, as you say, choices such as desktop managers. Debian, via huge amount of continuous development is supporting debootstrap, so easy to build DebianLive-based systems (and plenty of these around the Internet). Puppy is a creative distribution in its own right and this is the Puppy forum afterall - supposed to be a place to promote Puppy and support it via the development work all distributions need. I'm tired of those who come on here making negative comments as if trying to bring it down.

Fact is woof-CE works, which is amazing from such a small, but active, development team. It must be difficult for devs to be bothered when faced with such negative people bringing their work down. However, Puppy is not about to die - more like a Phoenix about to rise through renewed interest of those who support it. Getting into woof-CE branch improvement internals, and avoiding remastering when creating a woof-CE buildable distribution, is the key to rapid progress and Puppy improvement.

As for where you post should be posted, I suggest you just re-post it in woof-CE needs you thread, and simply edit the version you have here (i.e.blank it out and just put a link to new version in woof-CE needs you).

I installed the rc3 slacko64 that uses the 4.4.7 kernel to my hard drive (and updated it) then used it to do a testing branch build of slacko:

I added applications with PPM (slow but works), added radky's latest JWMDesk-2.4.pet + JWM_themes_update-2.0.pet

The kernel has been updated 17 times since 4.4.70 came out, now at 4.4.87.

there was a bug section for Puppy serie IV and V
Perhaps chapter would be updated. Soon or later, you shall have to check this bug about apps removed but still in the menu.
version 32 bits downloaded (Firefox and Abiword). 64bits was for test only.
We are not typists, in the family, Some could use version Libre Office, much bigger , with mathematics, slides , and database software for daily working at home.. Me, i choose Goggles Music Manager as extra software, and Lazpaint for graphics. (in addition to MTpaint, so useful)
Feed back soon for update menu in 32 bits version.
If i were a geek, i should do my own Puppy. As passenger i like ready for use ones, Released for passengers unable to script anything in English.

it's not a NO GO item, some details. But Slacko is the official Puppy done by maestros. It has to be perfect because many locale Puplets will be released from it..
When you add an apllication , icon is missing in the menu because xpm not included, menu .desktop hs to be modified to add an SVG icon instead of xpm...
Often answers considers users as Linux experts... Sure they are 200 experts, but 200,000 downloades half from Windows are users.

I used the kernel kit to compile the latest kernel and then did ./3builddistro-Z to produce the new devx and iso
which I then installed to my Gateway desktop pc.

st downloaded and booted 6.9.9.9 but when I attempted to install the Puppy installer did not see the 7 partitions on Sda (including 3 for windows and 3 for pups) but did see the 3 partitions on Sdb with 2 pups installed. I have been using Puppy for many years and this has never happened before,
I also have Tahr54 and Xenial 64 and the installer worked ok with them.
Any answers available.

Just a note to the developer of slacko-700 rc3

Before releasing make sure that wacom.ko is inside the package
(the kernel driver for most of
wacom graphical tablets)

The serial drivers for wacom are inside slacko-700 rc3 but few people use these.

It can be compiled if the kernel sources are installed in installation as well as devx.

if you also want to install the wacom kernel module, you need to add --enable-wacom to the ./configure line. This usually isn't necessary unless you are using an older kernel which does not support your tablet. In this case the line would be:
./configure --enable-wacom --prefix=/usr

biltoo, fixmenus does not remove Alexandra from the menu. Same for uninstalled apps . It's no a No go, but Puppy did it in the past, so last Slacko 64 should do it too Thanks to have answered my question. Tahrpup too now has the bug, .
Waiting for repair by Help Desk, at least a message 'uninstalled' would be more professional.
As Alexandra was working in XenialDog and now Tahr-Xenial, i did a try. But libs missing. Audacious is OK, but the problem is programing, not the app. If you remove something, it should no longer appear.
The worse is no to get answers. Not only me, but newbies
pAVrecord is no longer used, even by his creator. Simple screen Recorder (stable) or wex (still being developed) are the modern screen-casters for Puppies. Norgo kindly makes SSR compiled by himself available for Slacko's passengers here. Merci Norgo. Development is when you have more than before, not less. Norgo, you win a star and our Puppy congratulations.

I can't confirm your observation.
Installed for test smplayer, audacious and lxterminal.
After uninstallation all menu entries of these applications disappeared.
Sorry can't detect any kind of malfunction.

Used for this test: Slacko64 6.9.9.9

But I detected an other thing.
Gnome-mplayer menu entry of your installation is located in ( the wrong ) section "AudioVideo"
This has been already corrected on 2nd June commit

How did you install those applications? Downloaded Pets, then install? or used Puppy Package Manager to install them?

Does /root/.packages reflect the existence of those applications?

Have most files in those applications been uninstalled leaving only the files /usr/share/applications/PROGRAM_NAME.desktop? You can see if their bin files have been uninstalled. Did you change the *.desktop files in anyway?

If no *.desktop for the applications exist in /usr/share/applications, is the Menu picking them up from someplace else? pfind "PROGRAM_NAME.desktop" would locate it, I think.

Are you using a SaveFile or a SaveFolder?

installed 13 sep 2017.. i will plug the pendrive soon, but they are similar feed back yet posted. Other users should inform something wrong in updatinfg the menu. Personnaly i don't care about this minor bug, however it's our duty to inform to get the public release as perfect as possible.
Slacko 700 work nice. But Slacko is missing innovation, as usual, Passengers too need some excitement with stable version.

6.9.6.4 is on the pendrive i am running. But i was answered that only 6.9.9.9 feed-backs will be accepted. I don't burn CDs; ok that is not too painfull to grub4Dos a new one.. but our main wish is to play with our computer.
For instance :
I am testing succesfully old text to speech, that is important for us, because lot of UK senior citizens live in my town. That is to help them, we must progress in understanding english accents, by practice. They hardly speak French. When you are Senior, learning is not your cup of tea.

I will plug Slacko rc 700 and test it again this afternoon
