A ppa is provided for Mintpup users :

$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:freefilesync/ffs

You need to have add-apt-repository enabled.

Then :
apt update and apt install freefilesync

For Xenialdog users :

https://www.freefilesync.org/download.php

Downloading section provides packages for 64-bit systems.

Backing up files and folders is good practice. Extra precaution is backing up on the cloud or keeping backed up files and folders on a device that is not on same location (appartment or house or office). Flooding, fire can damage your data, or theft can happen on one location, and you retrieve your data from another device on another location.
