Lobster, re Abiword's features, also add imports and exports Open Document
Format -- that's going to become a big thing.

I was wondering about the new Seamonkey, re carry-over of old email,
bootmarks, etc. from 2.02. Can anyone report on this?
Seamonkey uses /root/.mozilla for personal data, but the new Seamonkey
defaults to a different subdirectory, and I never found out what it will do, if
anything, if there is an older subdirectory already there.
If the new Seamonkey ignores the old stuff, perhaps you can just open two
Rox windows and copy stuff across.

Looks good, but please do compile JWM with fribidi in the next release. This very small addition would make Puppy more usuable for users using right-to-left languages such as Hebrew and Arabic. Without it, characters in these languages are displayed in the UI in a reverse order.

Metalink is similar to torrents. Use one of these applications to download the metalink.
aria2 (Unix) [ http://aria2.sourceforge.net/ ]
Get Right 6 (Windows) [ http://www.getright.com/ ]
Speed Download (Mac) [ http://www.yazsoft.com/ ]
wxDownload Fast (All)[ http://dfast.sourceforge.net/ ]
//Metalink is an Open Standard, makes downloading easier by bundling the various ways (FTP/HTTP/P2P)//
//to get files into one format for easier downloads, as well as bundling checksums//
//to automatically verify completed downloads. The more mirrors the better the metalink//
//Similar to torrent but supports more protocols//

PostPosted: Fri 15 Sep 2006, 00:32    Post subject: re: SeaMonkey email

Hi Barry!

Just waiting until tonight when finished with my browsing and email to burn the new 2.10 to disk. I can't wait!

About your question on SeaMonkey email. Yes, it can easily be done as I do it all the time. In fact, I set up my SeaMonkey/Tbird/Firefox, plus 10 email accounts in about 5 minutes flat. It simply requires use of being able to see ALL hidden files in ROX, use of the prefs.js file and Leafpad. Smile

#1: Take and go into your old mozilla folder in /root/.mozilla/default and take out the Profile. It'll have a bunch of numbers in it and end in .slt. Place this entire folder in a Temp storage file on C:\ in Windows.

#2: Start up the new 2.10. In /root/.Mozilla/default (You may have to start up SeaMonkey BEFORE this directory is even made!), go into the .slt folder.

#3: Open a second ROX window and point it to the temp folder in Windows which has the OLD .slt folder. Open it and copy the "Mail" folder over into the new .slt folder in 2.10. Next, from the old .slt folder COPY over the following files:

ANY file ending in .mab. This will be "abook.mab" (and any extra abook.mabs!), history.mab, etc. copy over a file with numbers and ending in .s. Copy over Bookmarks.html. Copy over prefs.js. Allow these files to over-write the EXISTING files.

IF you've done any theme alterations and have saved them in your Chrome folder, then copy over the userChrome.css and userContent.css to Chrome---but not the themes as those will have to be reinstalled along with extentions.

If you've used Chatzilla: Copy over that folder as well. Smile

#4: Set the run action on "prefs.js" to open in Leafpad. Then click on "prefs.js". Scroll down through the file until about 3/4ths of the way down and you see the OLD .slt directory of Puppy's SeaMonkey. I believe it began with 1jiciei.slt? Something similar to that. In Leafpad go to "Edit/Replace" on the menubar and enter the old .slt (make SURE it's correct! Don't take my word for it---find it in the file) and then look at the top of 2.10 ROX and see what the NEW .slt number is and place that in the bottom box and just "Click replace all".

#5: Save file.

Now when you start up SeaMonkey's email you SHOULD have all of your accounts, email, everything, even your old settings. You shouldn't even have to reset any preferences. Smile All you have to do now is reload your themes you may have had and extensions. That's it!

Admittedly: This LOOKS confusing as can be. It's not. Especially if you copy this out in leafpad and save it as a step-by-step file to go by. Okie-dokie? Wink

I hope this helps you folks?

Amicalement,

As always, a new release was eagerly downloaded, but 'puppy gold' lacks a bit of shine for me.

MUT loads a lot quicker, but trying to mount my 'data' partition (NTFS) results in an empty window opening for some reason? Sun java doesn't get installed properly in sea monkey, and a few other minor niggles I have sorted out myself.

The main sticking point is MUT though, why is it not working like it has flawlessly in older versions? Confused

I contacted the maker of metalink to notify them that puppy also is using metalink as a way to distribute iso's, recieved a reply and they have added the news to their news section.

Code:

14 Sep 06 :    PuppyLinux uses Metalink for their ISO download. "Puppy Linux is a small, fully featured Linux distribution. Puppy works swiftly on older systems and on modern computers including ThinPCs."

Go to this page, http://puppylinux.org/wikka/Puppy210 to download the puppy.
Go here to read about metalink, http://www.metalinker.org/

Can you also try File managers -> Pmount
