Hello,
Does Anyone have a suggestion for a simple desktop weather widget for Tahrpup-6.05?
I'd prefer not to use Pwidgets.
Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Weather Widget for Tahrpup-6.05?
Hi Semme,
Oh! something simple, like the Pwidget's icon, a symbol showing rain, sun, wind, night time, daytime and the temperature. A small icon, non-intrusive, that can sit over on the starboard side of the screen.

Hi sky,
search for some simple conkyrc weather script. You can edit it to show what you want and comment out what you don't want.

not a widget but a nice little weather script
location at the end can be a name or postcode/zipcode
Code: Select all
#!/bin/sh
rxvt --geometry 130x45+0+0 -hold -e curl wttr.in/cardiff

Very neat indeed. And easily modifiable, too! Nice one.
Cheers.

Nice open source weather widget that resides in tray but is a 40MB download.
"It's an Electron-based project, which as usual makes for a chunky download (over 40MB),
but there's no installation required and you can just download, unzip and run."

Weather Widget for Tahrpup-6.05?
Hi Folks,
What a fun bunch of weather scripts and widget like stuff.
So, while I play with some of the suggestions, I've temporarily solved the issue by putting my local weather station via https://www.wunderground.com as my home page on SeaMonkey.
That way I'll see the weather each time I bring up the browser.
Thank you, I'll leave the thread open for a while longer so we can collect some more ideas.
P.S. @ 666Philb

@ Sky Aisling:-
AFAIK, pWidgets works with all Pups from 5-series onward for certain. Tahrpup was the very first Pup I ran full-time, and I've always ran pWidgets in Tahr, right from the moment I discovered it on the Forum, some 2-3 months later.
Mind you, I can't say for definite that it'll run with the Tahr 6.05 ISO. My own started life as Tahr 6.0, back in November '14, and reached 6.05 status via the Service Packs that Phil released for it over time.....
I can't see any reason why it shouldn't work. pWidgets has never given me problems yet. I also run an extension within Chrome, called 'Currently', which replaces my New Tab page.
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... nfo-dialog
.....which gives me my local weather every time I open a tab. It, too, works via Weather Underground. However, I can't say if it's available for any other browsers.
A few of the themes are non-free; they cost a small, nominal amount (somewhere between US$3-$5).

Hi, Sky.
Glad you like the Chrome new tab weather extension. It's quite neat, isn't it?
I get my pWidgets from zigbert's pWidgets thread, here:-
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=35601
I first used 2.5.6, but have since updated to 2.5.8. It still runs flawlessly. I used to use all the CPU, RAM, Puppy Space, etc., widgets that are available with it, but since I've been using the GKrellM system monitor for all the 'techie' stuff, I now just run the pWidgets weather app on its own, with the geometry adjusted to sit either above or below GKrellM.
If you're interested, I did a thread on GKrellM here:-
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=109031
You can see the pWidgets 'Weather2' app sitting below GKrellm in the screenshot.

Weather Widget for Tahrpup-6.05? [SOLVED]
Thanks, Mike. Originally I said I didn't want Pwidgets because I've had too many issues with it. However, this Pwidget seems to working as you say, 'flawlessly'.
This is exactly what I wanted.

Well, I'm glad you like what I've done.
Many folks who've seen my desktops reckon they're too 'busy' for their liking. I take the view that I'm the one who has to sit and look at it.....so I'll have it set-up the way I want it..!
I suppose a 40 year interest in graphic design was bound to come out on my Puppy desktops, sooner or later...
And, er....yes. Puppies are addictive, mate. (If you hadn't already realised...!)
Good to hear pWidgets is now working for you. Nice one.
I do like your little pussycat.....
Mike.
