606 was announced in February 8, as a fairly minor update to 6053. The ISO has been copied from the testing subdirectory on Ibiblio but nothing has been announced officially, nearly 7 months later.

Some people have apparently been using it.

What is it's status now?

6.0.5 ... very nice. Tried 6.0.6 test the other week (built from woofce)... ok, but not there yet.

As the Ubuntu Tahr (preferred/best) kernel has passed EoL and Tahr itself is that much closer to EoL, I guess that more development effort is perhaps being expended on Xenial? I tried 7.0.8.5 test the other day and that certainly did seem more along the road than Tahr 6.0.6.

The Tahr series are able to accept a kernel-change to a newer version.

Very oddly, when I upgraded from the 3 series to a 4 series kernel, the fonts weren't as good (so I switched back). Seen that on a few different Pup's. Maybe my hardware is too old (10 years) that newer kernels don't support (or support differently). i.e. even Xenial Pup 7.0.8.x with its 4 series kernel ... the fonts aren't as nice as in Tahr 6.0.5. I've tried all-sorts of adjustments (hinting variations ...etc.). I even tried moving the fonts over from Tahr etc. Might be down to using a old 720p TV as a monitor (I should really have investigated further and swapped out the monitor etc. but at the time just switching back to a post EoL kernel was the easier choice).

I just wanted to chime in and say that I really like the latest tahr64_6.0.6 - I managed to use woof and build a shiny fresh one
with the latest 4.9.30 kernel. And it seems .deb packages intall flawlessly and the old problem: "cups gets broken by chrome" is gone. I got my Brother LaserJet printer working on it today very easily. With latest chrome 59 already installed. (and no bitching about not being root)

When I first booted from the fresh iso tho - there were no .png s linked to any icons so everything was kinda raw - but I set up everything like I wanted - and installed latest chrome and then remastered (and copied the .chrome folder to /tmp/root before /root gets added) and also - (this I learned from Mike Walsh bless him) added a "silent-launch.desktop" (for chrome) in the autostart folder in .config with this text:

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Type=Application
NoDisplay=true
Name=silent-launch
Exec=google-chrome --silent-launch &

and it makes chrome start superfast (on my 5 year old generic but good gaming-pc)

Anyway - this is actually the fastest and most trouble-free
linux-puppy I have ever tried. It also works awesomly on my semi-new lenovo ideapad. (dual booted with win10)

So u just unzip and copy all files to a fresh formatted usb drive (fat32) and boot from it.

huh. I sudenly read this:

NOTE: If you're trying to build 64-bit system, please make sure that
your own OS is 64-bit. You can't build 64-bit on 32-bit system.
On the other hand, 64-bit system will happily build 32-bit puppies.

I used an ancient Dell Vostro 1000 from 2005 to build my puplet
and I,m pretty sure it ran on tahr 6.0.5 32 bit - but still managed
to build a 64 bit tahr.

I started using it last week & made a wl driver (see Broadcom-STA posts). It also opens newer cameras. Like it.

It is OK to build it on the "wrong" sysem as long as the "right" libraries are first in the search sequence.
