Newer version 0.0.7 can be downloaded from here:

I'm surprised btw that you need libaudclient2 and libxmmsclient6
I thought just yad , mplayer and conky are required.

Does not need libaudclient2 and libxmmsclient6, thanks for straightening me out :!:

Fixed my other post to reflect that.

Thanks fredx!

Have a look at radiotray available in the Debian repositories (apt-get install radiotray) as a possible alternative to DogRadio. Running it adds a aerial type icon to the tray and right click ... configure radios ... you can add/edit/remove stations as desired.

Fine, but I think it is good to support app/util development done on the forum - most of which are tiny and can be used/modded to work on either Puppy itself or on the various Dogs. Otherwise, just use full Debian and what Debian provides and don't bother with development work here so just close the forum! :-)

Radiotray is obviously using python which in your example case gets installed as a dependency. If python were already installed, such as if Openshot/Blender were already installed then the to-be-installed dependencies comparison would be different. For instance if radiotray versus dogradio were already installed on two systems, and both then installed openshot and blender, you might look and see that the former system was pulling in fewer dependencies for that openshot/blender install.

Or ... such additions/changes could be targetted to be incorporated into the main core i.e. Debian repositories and/or WoofCE. As a example Debian LiveCD looks to be in its death throes due to lack of support/development interest.

It would be obviously if you give link to the package dependencies like:
https://packages.debian.org/jessie/sound/radiotray
Python application depending on gstreamer plugins or much smaller gtkdialog/yad alternative is the real question and the winner is obvious for Puppy linux like system. Keep linux small and fast is the point of this forum and Debian live suicide has nothing to do with this subject.

This pet fixes the error "fail to launch /unable to load" when running the following programs from the JWM Menu.
Menu-->Graphic-->Image Viewer (gpicview)
Menu-->Documents-->ePDFview (epdfview)
Menu-->Business-->mtCelledit (mtcelledit)
Menu-->Multimedia-->Gnome-Mplayer (gnone-mplayer)
Menu-->Business-->xcalc (removes broken xcalc from menu)

This pet fixes the .desktop files of the mentioned programs by removing the environmental variable from the program execution and then runs fixmenus to fix the menu.

Edit: added 3 other menu items, original pet was just gnome-mplayer
Edit: added xcalc fix that removes broken xcalx from the menu

Hello all.

If you ever need to edit comments (aka tags) in ogg files, mp3, flac, etc.,
I puppy-fied the Debian Stretch package for EasyTag-2.4.3.

Download site for the deb archive:
https://debian.pkgs.org/9/debian-main-i ... 6.deb.html

The EasyTag site:
https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/EasyTAG

~~~~~~~~~
Comments ;) :
Simple to use, handy when you need it.
It's a Gnome app.
The rendering on my monitor was not terrible, but it does the job.
Don't let it search for your music files, it will take forever. Drill down the
file tree manually, it will be faster to get to the music dir containing the
files you need to process.
~~~~~~~~~

Available here for the next month:
easytag_2.4.3-1_i386.pet (executable, plus the libopus library that's
missing in our DPupStretch-7.0. I installed and tested this pet package
and you don't need anything else.)
http://www107.zippyshare.com/v/6JYVO0MN/file.html

easytag_2.4.3-1_i386_NLS.pet (locales only)
http://www4.zippyshare.com/v/bLI0FCw0/file.html

IHTH someone.

Have a great day!

Hello all.

I built another DpupStretch-7.0a1 yesterday evening from the "rationalize"
branch of woof-CE.

It went ok. It took me about an hour and a half to build it. The only choice
of Linux kernel for this DPupStretch is Linux kernel 4.1.38.

~~~~~~~~~~
Four bugs, AFAICT, easily fixed:
-- netsurf didn't have its exec, but everything else. Thanks to gjuhasz
for an easy fix. The title of his thread says version 3.4, but gjuhasz is
offering the latest v. 3.6 of Netsurf in the smokey01 repo.
-- 01micko's netmon_wce is missing. You need it because otherwise you
don't really know if you're on-line. It's available in this thread, or import
it directly from slim6 or similar slacko Pup. It hasn't changed since 2015.
Don't forget to make a link of it in /root/Startup.
-- jwm was always showing a blue title bar for windows, whatever its
theme. Annoying if you do not have a background in tones of blue. So I
installed icewm as the main WM, from the PPM. You can get some
beautiful modern themes for icewm at
https://www.box-look.org/browse/cat/142/ord/latest
Again, once you've installed icewm, don't forget to put a link from
/usr/bin/icewmtray in /root/Startup, otherwise your tray icons won't show.
-- Time setting is always the pits, for me, anyway. To cure it, you may
want to install htpdate ASAP, because some sites you need to access at
this set-up stage (including the Debian repos, haha) won't let you in if the
time "is late" on your computer.
For that reason, a "petification" of the htpdate deb archive is attached
below. Please recycle X to get it working after install. The time in the tray
bar may take a couple of seconds to adjust.
~~~~~~~~~~

-- If you wish to write or calculate, you'll have to install abiword and
gnumeric from PPM. They are not included in the build. It's easy to do, so
it's barely inconvenient.

-- As to major web browsers, you may wish to refer to Mike Walsh's and
other forum members' threads on this forum to install your choice of browser.

~~~~~~~~~~
A screen capture is attached. As you can see the rest is customization.
I hope this revives people's interest in the stable and excellent DPups.
BFN.
Do we know if it is possible to compile in a different kernel if we edit the build conf file in woof-CE? I did my first ever woofing the other day and was looking at this.
musher0 wrote:-- jwm was always showing a blue title bar for windows, whatever its
This is because the theme configuration in JWM was changed quite fundamentally. Newer JWM will not recognise the older themes and so the windows default to that blue colour. I have always liked JWM and am running the latest 2.3.7 release. I made a few themes for it which have the "motif" border decorations. I could post those but folks may want to produce their own themes in accordance with personal taste.
With hand editing its a relatively easy syntax to learn especially if you have examples to reference, and you can tweak things that little bit more. For instance I've moved over to narrowing Windows title bars right down and removed the windows title text as that's shown in my panels tasklist anyway and I just need enough of a title in order to grab/move the window around (rather than having to right click on the tasklist and select 'move'). Looks better with that narrower title bar when a window is full screen
Image
My preferred base system is just xorg, jwm and pcmanfm as running pcmanfm --desktop also provides desktop icons as well as being the file manager. I don't even bother with installing gtk themes now either and just settle for the in-build defaults. No menu either (excepting the small exit/reboot type menu that I have pop up when the panels clock is clicked) as I have my most used programs in the panel and open the filemanager showing the /usr/share/applications folder content to see other programs, or use the right WIN key to pop up gmrun i.e. enter part of the program name and press TAB to list matches, select and ENTER to run.
I still love this ttuuxxx release.
Maybe he is just too busy.
As I probably stated before this is a great Rescue Puppy.
I have tried it on many PCs that are just hard going to
boot with some Puppies.
HPs, Dells amongst them.
One problem was printing...
just wanted a PDF file screenshot for Internet banking.
Maybe it's a cups thing....anyway not a biggie for me.
I found out on this I had to >>> Print to File
then it worked. I had never seen this in any other Puppy.
I like it because it is a simple Puppy.
Still has Rox file manager.
None of the other window managers.
Haven't found a PC where I booted and had to fiddle screen sizes.
Basic.
But don't be fooled basic doesn't mean crap.
Crafted is the theme here.
To me this should have been released as an Official Puppy.
You really can feel the love in this thing.
Hi guys.
Thanks for the various reactions. I hope they spark a new interest in DPup.
~~~~~~~~~

As you probably all know by now, I have come to hate jwm, because of the
problems xml code created for me in the beginning, and there seemed to
be no one to explain it to me at the time. Also the mental attitude that
jwm would be identified with Puppy was quite untrue and unpleasant.
Puppy Linux is so much more than a single WM.

Yesterday, jwm created another problem for me (whether it is a new
version or not doesn't matter). I was not surprised. I just rode with it, let
it be, -- and installed icewm!

So I lost / refused / boycotted one WM way back when. Big deal! Because
of that "loss", I had to leave my comfort zone -- to discover +/- ten WM's
that are, IMO, equal or superior to jwm: icewm, echinus, awesome, dwm,
Window Maker, waimea, wmx, openbox, pekwm, aewm, etc., etc. :D

For me, "boycotting" jwm ended up being a wonderful adventure. Not
always easy, but quite rewarding. To each his / her own, of course.

~~~~~~~~~
I agree with cthisbear that Puppy management should have promoted one
of the DpupStretch-es to official Puppyhood. Maybe the reason why that
did not happen is that the lot of us did not stick closely enough to Puppy
conventions?
Anyway, it's too late now, we had the momentum, we were ahead of the
Debian devs at the time, we could have swept the rug from under their
feet, but we lost that momentum.
~~~~~~~~~

Still the "template" for a beautiful and stable Dpup is at woof-CE for
anyone who has a couple of hours to spare.

Or download one of the "ready-made" ones! :)

Hello all.

You can access a DpupStretch-7 build by recobayu here.
He used wiak's automaton script to build it. Interesting.

Puppy Linux is more than a WM

"Puppy Linux is so much more than a single WM. "
i say
Puppy Linux is more than a WM. , it is an OS which will get your computer as efficient as biggest Linux, whatever the WM used.
About Debian and Devuan, i would add Puppy Linux was so efficient in the past because it made things a different way.
Nowadays Debian devs come to Puppy (Dogs), and Puppy devs go to Debian. Will they meet together ? On the Puppy Linux forum. Perhaps...
What is important is to arrive at the same result as old Puppies, to arrive at better results would be a plus.
If all puppies with a Debian PPM are Dpup, try the Dpup Stretch by pupjibaro team.. Their Puppies are final release and LTS.
puppy_stretch_7.0.0.sfs : Sfs are named the same, under the cover.

This is because the theme configuration in JWM was changed quite
fundamentally. Newer JWM will not recognise the older themes and so the
windows default to that blue colour. I have always liked JWM and am running
the latest 2.3.7 release. I made a few themes for it which have the "motif"
border decorations. I could post those but folks may want to produce their
own themes in accordance with personal taste.
Hello OscarTalks.

If you feel like it, people such as myself with no talent for graphic design
would be grateful if you made those new jwm themes publicly available!

TIA.

You can cheat and get icons for close, minimise ... window buttons on the web quite easily and later versions of jwm will just scale those appropriately. Just include them in your .jwmrc (I use the same button for max and maxactive).

<ButtonClose>/home/user/Pictures/xbm/close.png</ButtonClose>
<ButtonMax>/home/user/Pictures/xbm/max.png</ButtonMax>
<ButtonMaxActive>/home/user/Pictures/xbm/max.png</ButtonMaxActive>
<ButtonMin>/home/user/Pictures/xbm/min.png</ButtonMin>

for much of the rest jwm is relatively straight forward if you follows Joe's documentation the following for instance covers most of the appearance for windows, panel, tasklist ....etc.

Code: Select all

   <WindowStyle>
        <Font>Sans-10:bold</Font>
        <Width>6</Width>
        <Height>24</Height>
        <Corner>0</Corner>
        <Foreground>#FFFFFF</Foreground>
        <Background>gray60:gray10</Background>
        <Outline>#000000</Outline>
        <Opacity>0.5</Opacity>
        <Active>
            <Foreground>white</Foreground>
            <Background>blue:#0077CC</Background>
            <Outline>blue</Outline>
            <Opacity>1.0</Opacity>
        </Active>
   </WindowStyle>
   <TaskListStyle>
      <Font>Sans-10:bold</Font>
      <Active>
             <Foreground>white</Foreground>
             <Background>#0077CC:blue</Background>
      </Active>
      <Foreground>white</Foreground>
      <Background>gray60:gray10</Background>
    </TaskListStyle>
    <TrayStyle group="false" list="all">
        <Font>Sans-12</Font>
        <Background>#333333</Background>
        <Foreground>#FFFFFF</Foreground>
        <Outline>#000000</Outline>
        <Opacity>0.75</Opacity>
    </TrayStyle>
    <PagerStyle>
        <Outline>#000000</Outline>
        <Foreground>#555555</Foreground>
        <Background>#333333</Background>
        <Text>#FFFFFF</Text>
        <Active>
            <Foreground>#0077CC</Foreground>
            <Background>#004488</Background>
        </Active>
    </PagerStyle>
    <MenuStyle>
        <Font>Sans-12</Font>
        <Foreground>#000000</Foreground>
        <Background>#DCDAD5</Background>
        <Outline>#000000</Outline>
        <Active>
            <Foreground>#FFFFFF</Foreground>
            <Background>#4B6983</Background>
        </Active>
        <Opacity>0.85</Opacity>
    </MenuStyle>
    <PopupStyle>
        <Font>Sans-12</Font>
        <Foreground>#000000</Foreground>
        <Background>#999999</Background>
    </PopupStyle>
    <ClockStyle>
        <Font>Sans-11:bold</Font>
        <Foreground>#FFFFFF</Foreground>
        <!-- <Background>#000000</Background> -->
    </ClockStyle>
.. learning the xml aids in migration, for instance I run near the exact same jwm setup also under pure debian and freebsd and prefer to keep it all in the single .jwmrc file. That even includes all the startup programs

Code: Select all

    <StartupCommand>sleep 10;openoffice-4.1.3 -quickstart -nologo -nodefault</StartupCommand>
    <StartupCommand>pcmanfm --desktop</StartupCommand>
    <StartupCommand>sleep 7;orage</StartupCommand>
    <StartupCommand>sleep 8;gtmixer</StartupCommand>
