How I enabled my Intel wireless adaptor N7265

#1 Post by Johnnyboy »

Intel wireless adaptor N7265

I'm posting this as it may help someone with a similar issue as me with one of these adaptors in their laptop.

The adaptor is not found when the iwlwifi module is loaded. In my case no firmware was being loaded. First see whats happening at boot.

At the console type :-

dmesg | grep iwl
Should indicate which firmware was loaded.

modinfo iwlwifi
This should tell you your kernel version and also the correct firmware for your adaptor.

Download the correct firmware for your adaptor making sure of the firmware version and the correct adaptor - there may be several for your adaptor. Extract the file and copy to the firmware folder-

At the console:-

cp iwlwifi-7265-8.ucode /lib/firmware
or whatever your file is called.

Here I discovered that my requested firmware was -7 but my new firmware was -8 so a quick rename of the new firmware to -7 made the adaptor work.

I hope this helps someone.

Regards
John

Thanks for the How-to. I moved it to the Wireless section because that's where I suppose someone who's looking for help with a wireless adapter would look. Eventually. After exhausting all other avenues.
