Usually these libraries are not needed, Gnome libs seem to have a special mechanism, that can run without them.

libdbus should work without them, only these are needed:

Code: Select all

sh-3.00#cd /usr/lib && ldd libdbus-1.so.2.0.0
ldd: warning: you do not have execution permission for `./libdbus-1.so.2.0.0'
        linux-gate.so.1 =>  (0xffffe000)
        libnsl.so.1 => /lib/libnsl.so.1 (0x40031000)
        libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x40044000)
        /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x80000000)

Mark, yes, I just checked that also. I'm probably going to have dbus in the pup 2.20, for max Slackware 12 compatibility. I'm trying to put in most of the base libraries that apps would need, including libdbus and libaspell, so Slack 12 pkgs can be plonked right in, with minimal dependency issues.

Hi.. I used Puppy Software Installer to install Abiword 2.4.5.pup- really easy, a great facility.

Found three problems- the Abiword version installed turned out to be the same crippled version that's included in 2.17, and it reported two missing dependencies:

librsvg-2.so.2 I found this on the PSI list and installed it.
libwmf-02.so.7 -couldn't find this one.

Couldn't we have the full version of Abiword on this list of optional extras?

Afaik Abiword is based on plugins.

I compiled it without restrictions, but maybe other distros added some more plugins.
Please describe as detailed as possible what you need, then those might be compiled.

libwmf should only be needed for wmf import, it should not hinder Abiword from working correctly?

Thanks... Shortcomings with Puppy version of Abiword are:

Puppy version: only a few fonts, and if you try another font then the default font can only be replaced by re-starting Abiword.
Version on the family XP machine: loads of fonts- can't count them!

Page setup: Puppy version only allows 100% size or smaller. XP version allows expansion to thousands of percent. I need this expansion, because my printer has no Linux driver, and the nearest I can find prints at A6 size when set to A4. By selecting 200%, I hope to be able to print full size.

Anyway, don't panic, I'll try Open Office.

view - zoom

There you can set 500%

Concerning fonts:

8.7 How to install fonts (scroll down a bit after you clicked on that chapter).

I think you also can add the windows font folder by adding the full path to /root/.fonts
At least that was possible in older versions, I did not try it since a while now.
Or you had to symlink the windows fontfolder as /root/fonts
I do not remember exactly.

Hi- Thanks, but.....the zoom in your screenshot only affects the screen, not printing. The zoom I need is the one you get in "File/ Page Setup".

I've found out that a man at Kyoto University has rewritten the driver for my printer for Debian. So I'm installing Debian so that I can follow his instructions. If successful, I'll be back asking "How do I make this work in Puppy?"

Until then.....

Wow this is neat!

I read on the first post that PSI supports repositories and .deb's. Does this mean I can add the ubuntu repositories? How can I do that?

Thanks!

No.
Deb support was an experimental additional program, if you try this in new versions of Puppy, it might not work (though some guys seem to have it gotten to work).

I do not support or recommend this addon anymore, as Puppy now instead can use gslapt , the slackware package installer.
As that is no "3rd party tool"like my Deb-utility, you can expect a long-term support and updates.
Also the libraries from Puppy 3 are binary-compatible with Slackware 12.

Please search the forum for "gslapt" to find recent postings, currently people have added a package that installs it together with an optimal dependency list.

direct download (but there might be newer versions already, I was offline almost 2 weeks):

Through the PSI (Puppy Software Installer) search function gslapt is found there and it is the latest.
Time savers:
Find packages in a snap and install using Puppy Package Manager (Menu).

thanks Béèm :)

I however would recommend the one from the link above, I think it includes an updated dependency-list for Puppy3.

This avoids conflicts in the dependency-checking.

This reminds me, that the puppy3 repository is not yet visible in PSI, I will add a script that generates the required list tomorrow

Nice to read you again :)

Hi MU,
Still following in Puppy, but have been away quite often.
The version and sub version numbers seem to be the same, but thanks for the warning.

PSI is really a nice tool.
I use it as much as I can.

I uploaded a new version.

It now lists packages for Puppy 3, too.
From dotpups.de and Barrys packages from ibiblio.org

To install pets, it now uses PetGet instead of the older pkgtool from Nathan Fisher.

I also added a new feature:
it first will try to download dotpups.txt.tar.bz2 , and only if that is not available, the uncompressed dotpups.txt.

Size comparison:
http://puppyfiles.org/dotpupsde/dotpups/dotpups.txt
uncompressed: 342.000 byte
compressed: 35.000 byte

So if you are modem-user, you will see a significent speedup.

I also updated the mirrorlist in the Wiki, because since weeks there were dead links in it.

PSI?

#105 Post by Bikerbob »

Just a couple of quick questions.

Why does the pup of PSI not include the GTKlist04 in it.. OR why has PSI not been made into a PET so that the same thing could be done. Getting all dependencies so that multi steps does not have to be taken.

Second. I install this.. and when running it give me a little xwindow message saying boarderless moment.

WHAT is that? and why would I be experiencing this?

puppy 301 on a I586 platform.

Gtklist is used by other programs, too.
If you would uninstall PSI, those program would stop working with gtklist included.

PSI is meanwhile part of ezpup, a big pet that allows to enhance Puppy in one step with all required dependencies included.

The borderless window just tells you, that PSI started.
The lists are meanwhile so huge, that it takes 15 seconds on my notebook, until the final window becomes visible.

In my puplett Muppy I add such startmessages to all slow programs like firefox, PSI or openoffice. So that you don't wonder why nothing happens, and click again and again on the startentry in the menu.
I took this idea from Ecopup.

I love the Puppy Software Installer, I am however curious, how much work would be involved in showing the programs that were all ready installed to the LIVE CD, and let you un-install the packages you don't want? Of course hiding, or setting critical files that would break PUPPY to be grayed out?

I'll give it a try.
I plan a rewrite of PSI in the next weeks using GtkBasic.

I want to speed it up, and add localization.
Then I could add that.

I cannot give you a date yet, when it will be done.

.deb support is not available, as some dependencies miss in newer versions of Puppy.
You could try to install pb_debianinstaller and dillo.
That might work, but is no longer supported. It also might not work at all. I do not recommend it!
Since Puppy 3, the use of "gslapt" is recommended, instead.
You can install it too with PSI.
It gives full access to the repositories of Linux-Slackware 12, that is binary compatible with Puppy 3.
