How much does a coffin cost?
How much does a coffin cost?
Hello all.
Out of curiosity... How much is it in your country?
Something simple, six pieces of wood with minimal cotton cushions.
You may think this is dark humor -- and you're certainly free to think so
-- , but it's not.
As the sub-title says, I'm trying to think ahead and budget for my "future".
I don't suppose a used coffin could be obtained on the web?
Or perhaps shared accommodation? By then we'd both be very
quiet "roommates".
Thanks in advance.

I updated it.

Hi drunkjedi.drunkjedi wrote:Wow, 1000$ +. That's high cost for being dead.
Do you have to reserve ground too where you get buried?
How about building one yourself?
The wild west style.
Just get few planks together, suitable for your height.
Nail them together. Maybe decorate...
I am sure there will be some DIY kit available.
That's an idea. When I was young I was handy with wood (to a point).
Then I can go to the lumber store buy six planks, go to the Salvation
Army store buy some old cushions. Who needs comfort at that point,
eh? Probably I spend $100, not $1000?
Ah yes, a nice suit also. I add $20 bucks?
There. Ready to go. And I don't get my kid into debt!
Of course, where to bury me? Good point, drunkjedi.
More research I guess.

The blue one on that page is very poetic, I feel. A little cheaper too. Still
has the address sticker so you can send yourself to the person who
caused you to die. (Broken heart syndrome, y'know, this sort of thing.)
Very thoughtful, this company.

I thought the beloved Trudeau clan paid for everything in the Great White North. Or they got the taxpayers to do it.
Admittedly, I am needling you here a bit given the exchanges in the other topic.
But, seriously, a little morbid, no?
This reminds me of the funeral of Pope John Paul II - a pope that knew how to pope. In keeping with the vow of poverty, he was buried in a pine box, but it was the best looking pine box I have ever seen.
If one is committed to traditional burial, then that is that. If one is not, however, then there are other options that cost less, I assume.
Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. This is terrible, but my thinking is, "Hey, I'm gone - it's someone else's problem."
Try not to die for quite a while.

Euh... in Canada, we have health care only. Not death care!!! Although ifTyroBGinner wrote:I thought the beloved Trudeau clan paid for everything in the Great White North. Or they got the taxpayers to do it.

you're dead poor (pun!) the province (not the federal gov.) will pay some
money to your family for your funeral.
Can be viewed as morbid, yeah. Strange as it sounds, actually trying to
lighten the mood a bit!!! Getting the minds of people off politics.
I agree with you, John Paul II was a great pope.

$30 ? Wow. Looks decent too. I can see myself in one of those!drunkjedi wrote:(...) Saw this on an Indian site.
It says it will cost around 2000 RS, aprox. 30$. And it's made of Incensed Wood, whatever it means...
But actual price will be decided after sending email enquiry.
But a DIY should cost less I think, well at least here.
But how much to get it here halfway around the world?

When my grandmother passed about 5 years ago, I looked around the complete funerals, more so that just coffins. It is absolutely gobsmacking the wide variance in prices charged, for what is essentially the same service, as Nanna put it, "waste disposal".
Anyway, we went with a service that cost about $5000 AUD, nice coffin, service with DVDs and music and stuff, cremation etc. On the website of the place we went with they also have a section for extreme budget offerings, which included burial / cremation and a CARDBOARD coffin. Still $1290! Sounds pretty horrible, but really what do you need when you're dead?

This should work using a card board box a refrigerator comes in.

I guess Australian prices are about the same as in Canada. Not sure if
our funeral homes offer cardboard coffins, though.
