After puppy linux users have the puppy package manager install an application, do they allow the application to update itself, or must they wait for someone to provide a new pet package?
If they do update the application and subsequently ask the puppy package manager to delete it, will all the remaining original and updated items be deleted?
Do .pets automatically update themselves?
Hi paperboy1994.
In answer to your question:
No, Puppy is not designed to update any of its programs or components
automatically. Puppy is not a "rolling distro" (as they are called), such as
ArchLinux or Fedora, for example.
The basic set of programs for a particular version of Puppy virtually never
changes. You'd update from one version of Puppy to the next higher
version by installing the higher version and stopping to use the old one.
That said, some members here act as maintainers within Puppy for this or
that application. Examples: radky with his PupInfo etc. suite; Mike_Walsh
with the Chrome browser; zigbert with pfind and pmusic. So if you follow
their work on this forum, you will be able to update some programs
manually while staying with a particular version of Puppy.

Basically, if a package pet install is listed in the PPM uninstall, there is info stored on what the pet specifically installed.ask the puppy package manager to delete it
PPM uninstall uses this info to uninstall all that the pet installed.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
