With regard to Flash, I've found Geoffrey's Adobe Flash Player Auto Updater to work very well on all of the Puppies I've used it on. Might it be better to use this instead?

I've mainly used it Slacko 5.7.0 and the current Slacko 7 test builds including 6.9.6.4 and it's coped very well with the various URL changes.

Merlin - Core i5-4590, 8GB RAM, Radeon R9 270X. Slacko 5.7.0

Jades, I didn't know Geoffrey's "Adobe Flash Player Auto Updater" even existed. Thank You for your post.

Geoffrey, Thank You... it certainly makes updating the flash player easier.

The left mouse button does not work when running Slacko on VMWare player. It worked with the 32bit versions of Slacko & works with the 64 bit version of FatDog, so it seems like I should be able to fix this. Any suggestions? Thanks.

slacko 6.9.6.4 remaster and multisession problems

#425 Post by RandSec »

My slacko 6.9.6.4 (32 bit) remaster will not boot, reporting: "boot: Could not find kernel image: vesamenu.c32"

I am locked out of the 64-bit path because my printer, a Brother, only has 32-bit Linux drivers.

Also, there seems to be a problem with saving to a multisession DVD, in that the system seemed to write to the .iso, but boot apparently sees it as empty (and it did not start out empty).

Puppies have been driving my thin client banking systems (no hard drive and no flash drive) for over 6 years. They are normally customized with a single (first time) save to DVD, after setting up location, video, audio, browser, security and printing.

It is normal for optical technology to sometimes have unrecoverable write faults on save, and then mounting and opening the disc shows a problem, but the current multisession issue does not get that far. It does not mount. pBurn claims the disc is empty, without even the original iso present, although visually it has been recorded.

Well... this beta release is getting old.. a new beta should be released.. in the last weeks there have been critical fixes..

The multisession cd/dvd stuff was fixed in 2016-12-19 ... see 8bb32c756f43acbcc1b493943c34a656760ad2be

It was pretty outdated and broken for the current code.

I always use burniso2cd to burn a multisession cd/dvd. I haven't used pburn in a while.

The last time i used a cd/dvd to boot something was when i had to fix the multisession dvd stuff..

The remaster script may need some fixing .. hmmm ..

Slacko-64-6.9.6.4

32-bit libs not working for Google Earth... Same for the new LxPup-64 (My google earth .sfs works in Tahr-64, Xenial-64 with their 32 bit libs and also worked in the 14.1 Slacko-64 and LxPup-64 14.1 version)

Patched "/usr/bin/f2fs-usb-installer" provides uuid to "init

#428 Post by gyro »

Attached "ydrv_slacko_6.9.6.4.sfs" contains a patched version of the "/usr/bin/f2fs-usb-installer" file, with 4 changes.

1. It now supports the recent "init" boot parameter support for specifying partitions with a uuid.
It does this by adding a "pdrv=<uuid>" boot parameter to the "extlinux.conf" entry.

2. It now adds a "psubdir=$HOMEDIR" boot parameter to the "extlinux.conf" entry.

3. The pupmode=12/pupmode=13 processing is changed so that "pmedia=usbhd" is used to trigger pupmode=12, and "pmedia=usbflash" is used to trigger pupmode=13.

4. Some return code processing in "copy_func" and "frugal_func" has been modified.

Download the attached "ydrv_slacko_6.9.6.4.sfs" and move it into the directory containing your frugal install.

Note1: To use this sfs, "f2fs-usb-installer" should already be installed.

Note2: The "full install" code has not been touched by any of these changes.

Slacko-64 6.9.6.4

Slacko-64 6.9.6.4

Clicking on any of the 'drive icons' (sda,sdb,fd0,sro ect) mounts and displays contents as it should... Unmounting that drive (red-box on icon) only results in bringing up another window with its contents and will keep doing so with additional clicks on the red-box. Unmounting the drive is only possible with right-clicking the drive-icon then using the unmount-drive feature listed in dialog box options...!

Sailor Enceladus has posted a slacko iso in another thread.

For all of you wanting to test the latest version of slacko... here it is:
Sailor Enceladus wrote:I tried another Slackware 14.2 32-bit build today with the latest woof-CE (commit 4711). If anyone wants to play with it:

md5sum: 81ae484fc0370e63e600dd3ec3a42297

It comes with kernel 3.14.55, but I did try making a 3.14.79 with latest kernel-kit too.
(jwm sometimes gets stuck and I need to restart X but that might be unrelated, still testing)

It seems that the battery icon show colors for me on the 64-bit version, but on the 32-bit version it always shows as empty (on at least 6.9.6.3, 6.9.6.4, and r4711). Does this difference happen for anyone else, or possibly something specific to my laptop?

Hi Sailor E,

The blue is ok on my laptop w/ Slacko 32-bit 6.9.6.4, and provides all the feedback as you show above. Here's a closeup of it:

Thanks belham. I'll have to have a talk with that laptop battery tomorrow and ask it why it feels so gray about 32-bits then.

USB and "false positive"...

When you transfer files to a USB in Fatdog, it shows the transfer to be done, despite not being done. This causes failure for users. I got a USB with a led and that led is on like twice as long as the Operating Systems little windows showing the transfer.
Buddy likes the Fatdog64 and the good old, yet new 5.2.8.X :D

I haven't been able to install:
Gimp
JRE
Flash
(I've tried old-fashioned pet, txz sfs, and straight from the package manager. No good.)

I have been able to install:
premote
Dropbox
Packit

Can anyone point me to a Gimp that will install? Or is it me?

Gimp: The one here works for me: http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... i486-s.pet
JRE: There should be a button in Menu -> Utility called "Get Java Runtime/Development". Just tried it and seemed to work here.
Flash: There's a new pet here that works for me: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 264#942264

I'm using the Slacko 6.9.6.4 32-bit r4777 build though to test these (not 64-bit) because I already have it booted up.

I compiled this older for slacko a couple years back, I like it better than the new one for a few reason, it uses less deps, its a lot smaller 5.5MB pet, You can save your image as a jpg or png, The newer versions you need to "Export" as jpg or png which I find is a pain and 3 steps backwards, http://smokey01.com/ttuuxxx/Slacko/gimp-2.4.0-i486.pet
Have fun :)
