Thanks for all your replies phil.

I'll do my best to test your suggestions. However, I have to split my time in three at
the moment: this Xenial build, the Puduan build (please qv that thread) and some
important matters in "real" life (the one that puts food on the table!).

I may have to put any Puppy-ing on hold for a couple of days. Thanks for your
understanding.

can you try running 'Download dbs' (in gui) update all repos , and at the end when it says Processing Packages-ubuntu-xenial_into a standard format...
please wait... check to see if there's any segfaults on any of the repos.

i've had a few problems with this on various pups and this might be the cause of the download fails.
Hi phil

I reran the download-db part and got the attached msg.

Where are the repos? and how do I check for segfaults aside from running the executables?

Thanks in advance.

if you scroll the terminal window back from there slightly, you should see 'processing packages.blah..blah into a standard format' for each of the repos . ... check that it doesn't say segfault after any of entries.

the result in your picture looks to me like it's run fine (but still check)
those few 'fails' in your picture are unimportant, they are mainly left over entries from tahrs build. and have been removed in woofce as of a few days ago.

if all good....onto the download packages tab
once the downloading has finished... check if there's a DOWNLOAD_FAILS output ... also check in the 'packages-pet' folder and make sure 'busybox.pet' has gotten downloaded.

Hi, phil.

Busybox dowmload seems ok:
busybox-1.21.0-patched_f2fs-x86.pet
busybox-1.24.2-i686.pet
There are two busybox pet archives... Is that ok?

Fails:
::::::::::::::
DOWNLOAD-FAILS-deb-xenial
::::::::::::::
libavahi-common-data_0.6.32~rc+dfsg-1ubuntu2_i386.deb
libheimbase1-heimdal_1.7~git20150920+dfsg-4ubuntu1_i386.deb
libresid-builder0c2a_2.1.1-14ubuntu2_i386.deb
::::::::::::::
DOWNLOAD-FAILS-PET
::::::::::::::
simplescreenrecorder-0.3.6.pet
uget-1.4.8.5-1-pup4.pet
I found the uget package and put it in dir. packages-pet.

I have found a source for a simplescreenrecorder by a certain maerten bert at
github, but could not find a pet. (I could compile it and make a pet archive.)

I found the libivahi-etc. and the libheimbase-etc. at pkgs.org, but not the
libresid-etc. I put these two in packages-xenial.

Hello phil and all.

Still no luck. Please find attached an errors file and a screen capture.

One can see from this comparison that sometimes the required file does exist --
even twice! Why the error message then?

those missing packages are from Packages-puppy-tahr-official which should be in the working folder.

check to see if it opens in geany as it could be corrupt.

jlst wrote:doglover also reported that he couldn't build a tahrpup64, i had no problems downloading all the packages and fixed a couple lines with packages that no longer exist...

so if this a matter of puppy version or customized puppies... phil666bj you should release another beta today and advice people to use that one to build..

this can also be a matter of an old woofce version

this is the procedure to download:
git clone https://github.com/puppylinux-woof-CE/woof-CE
cd woof-CE
./merge2out

to start again with an updated woof-ce
cd woof-CE
git pull
./merge2out
doglover tried to build a uefi cd. tahrpups syslinux needs updating for that. a regular iso works..... well almost, i discovered that one of the new xorg packages has /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-amdgpu.conf which causes X to fail on my netbook... deleting that fixed it.

i've been trying to get the next xenial beta out for weeks!! but having big issues with kernels & firmware... the build recipe is just about there, just need to remove some stuff that's already in 'rootfs-packages'

I should mention that the iso I was trying to build was a legacy boot. I don't mess with uefi.

Hehehe wrong thread. Sorry.
