Libreoffice for Older Puppies
@foxpup the libxcb patch in the first post contains libxcb.so.1 from Wary's /usr/X11R7/lib/libxcb.so.1.0.0 to unzip the .pet using this tool.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/anitao ... t/download
Then place it in opt so in other words /opt/loibreoffice5.0/program as well as Gcc patch and this should be enough to solve your problem. Had time to think about this and fiddled around a bit it should be your answer.
Also you can try this update which I have tried and works with wary.

libstdc++.so.6 ; glibc2.20 upgrade
I tried LibreOffice 5.1.2. It asks for a newer version of libstdc++.so.6.
I took it from squeeze - a suggestion from watchdog in the thread in the quote just below - but that breaks my locales.
I am still puzzling.
I find it strange that the pet for LO 5.0.0 in the first post of this thread works and it has not a newer libstdc++ in it. Or am I wrong? Or did this requirement change from version 5.0 to 5.1?

This could be what I need to get newer glibc (and newer libstdc++) without breaking anything. I will try it and report.Robert123 wrote:Also you can try this update which I have tried and works with wary.

Try the Libre 3.3 version from this portable apps web page. https://sourceforge.net/projects/portable/files/
Old but stable/good IMO. And you can store it outside of puppy space so it doesn't load your savefile.

Hi rufwoof
Does it handle doc and docx well?
That is the main reason I want LO5. It is for a group project and the document is written by at least 5 people of which most use windows/msOffice.
Besides that, I like pushing the borders of Wary. It is perfect for my hardware, but not that perfect for modern software. That's a challenge.
Btw, I looked briefly at your underdog debian jessie thread. Kirk, what a bold voyage, again!!
I will have to read it again to understand. What a wonderfull forum this is! Thanks.

I gave up on upgrading to newer libs. Something always breaks. In the deb package it is reported that it breaks the locales if you install these newer libs. Maybe it is not that important that the locales break, but I chose another way.
I found out about the change with libreoffice from 5.0 to 5.1 and it confirmed my suspicion: newer libs are required. So I stick with the latest 5.0, that is 5.0.6. The pet from this thread is quite good also.
No updates for libreoffice anymore.
To compensate I've installed Word from office 2000 under wine, with the FileFormatConverters. Like that I am able to read and write ms word files and send them to windows junkies without any issues about differences in layout etc.

As a follow-up to this thread, I've been using L.Office 3.5.3 for quite some time in Racy 5.5. It has all the required functionality that I need, and is a hell of a lot lighter than the 5-series.
I don't know about the .docx format; I have no need of it anyway, as I don't have to interact with anybody running Windoze.
The easiest way to stop it trying to update, of course, is to go into Tools->Options, then Online Updates, and clear the check box. Stops that 'flashing' business every time you go near the shutdown 'X' top right, since they always place it right underneath that.

Additionally, I've recently put together .pet & SFS packages for SoftMaker's FreeOffice 2016. I have this running quite happily in Racy 5.5.....and it handles .doc and .docx without issue.

Huh. I might have known summat like that would happen. I used my own registration 'key' in the /root/.softmaker directory, which saves you having to re-register for every Pup.greengeek wrote:Hi Mike - just tried installing your freeoffice pet and came up with this:Mike Walsh wrote:Additionally, I've recently put together .pet & SFS packages for SoftMaker's FreeOffice 2016. :
You'll need to do this:-
a) Delete the /root/.softmaker directory.
b) You'll have to perform a 'redundant' download to get your own serial key. This is the single, negative aspect of using FreeOffice; you cannot obtain the serial number without the download, as the serial number is sent to your email address at the same moment you click the 'Download' button. Vicmz gives the same advice in his thread about FreeOffice 2012, here:-
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=85713
You can, however, cancel the download almost immediately, to save bandwidth; by this point, you've got what you want.....the email with the serial number.
You'll probably find it in your 'Spam' folder, BTW.
c) Upon starting FreeOffice, you'll now be asked to enter the serial number you were sent by e-mail. Just follow the instructions.
Sorted! Let me know if that works. It ought to. (Sorry for the messing about. )
I'll have to re-upload them, without the 'hidden' .softmaker directory.....and edit the first post again.
(*sigh*)
Mike.
