ps: what's a webcam? - is that the thing above the screen that shines an LED in your face when you look at movies online? Never understood that thing...

There is often three devices on the top of the open lid.
One is just a light to illuminate the keyboard.
One is a pinhole microphone
One is a small video camera designed for video-conferencing.
