How to access links in Samba shared files? (Solved)

#1 Post by iscraigh »

When I browse a samba share located on my Myth box (debian) I can get access to the folders, but I have a symlink in a folder pointing to a folder on an external usb drive, this I cannot access. I get an errot that the link is not available or i don't have permissions. This same link works from an Ubuntu box to the Myth box using samba and the same username and password.

Any suggestions as to how I might troubleshoot this. I have probably not given enough info so if you need more specifics please ask and I will post any files needed.

Thanks

Craig

I found the answer......

On the server if it is runninga newer version of samba you must edit the

/etc/samba/samba.conf file

unix extensions = off

then it will not try to open links on the local machine
