Hi Pelo,
I'm currently having problems running hev1 / 0x31766568 codec files in TahrPup64's built-in VLC v2.1.4/Rincewind:

Code: Select all

Codec not supported:
VLC could not decode the format "hevc" (MPEG-H Part2/HEVC (H.265))
Actually, that's pretty much the same message I received after upgrading to VLC-2.2.1 via the PPM, so an issue with plugins remains unresolved:

Code: Select all

File /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/codec/libfdkaac_plugin.so has these missing library files: libfdk-aac.so.0
File /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/codec/libshine_plugin.so has these missing library files: libshine.so.3
File /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/codec/liblibass_plugin.so has these missing library files: libass.so.5
File /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/codec/libfluidsynth_plugin.so has these missing library files: libfluidsynth.so.1
File /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/codec/libvaapi_drm_plugin.so has these missing library files: libva-drm.so.1
File /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/video_output/libgles1_plugin.so has these missing library files: libGLESv1_CM.so.1
File /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/video_output/libgles2_plugin.so has these missing library files: libGLESv2.so.2
File /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/access/libvnc_plugin.so has these missing library files: libvncclient.so.0
I've not had a great span of time to work this out, looking for an updated VLC for 64-bit Puppy to make it simple - have downloaded vlc-libde265-master.zip from GitHub (yes I'm aware there's a new libx265 to replace it but...), now need the tahpup64 devx to compile the patch... has anyone done this already and is willing to upload the pet or sfs I wonder?

Hi Pelo

I have pretty much given up on VLC for Puppy. (Running Slacko 6.3 32 bit).

Tried almost all pets and sfs available on repos and builds other members made and they all have problems.
Either missing deps or once we get them all, VLC says it can't play mp4.
Seriously?
What a mess.

Basically use Mplayer or else VLC under Wine.
I used to be a big fan of VLC under Windows but have to say that I'm warming to Mplayer.

Not that Mplayer does not have it's quirks, but at least it works.
Plus if you dig deep in the documentation, it has some really nice features that the VLC devs have not even though of.

VLC works fine in Fatdog64.

Even with mp4 and H.264?

I'm pretty sure it does. I watch .MP4 all the time and I'm sure it's using the H.264 codec. Give me a link to a video and I will test it.

Hi smokey01

Could not find a link where I was 100% certain that it was H.264 wrapped in mp4, so rather attached a short clip (highly compressed) of test pattern and 1KHz tone.

Certainly not studio quality but more than sufficient for a quick test.

It's 1280 X 720 @ 25fps H.264.
The audio uses a sample rate of 44.1KHz

Just remove the fake .zip extension.

It showed a colour test pattern with a constant audio tone that ran for 6 seconds.

Seems to have worked fine unless it was suppose to do something else.

Perfect, working properly.
Thanks for testing.

I compiled this in lxpupsc-16062 but using it in slacko-6036 too.
I won't be posting it but can give you a list of what I compiled if you want it.

libbluray-0.7.0.tar.bz2
libpng-1.6.22.tar.xz
last_x264.tar.bz2
added this pet: lua-5.1.4-i686.pet
vlc-2.2.3.tar.xz

Added qt-487 from PPM first, may also need dbusmenu from PPM.

./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var
--libdir=/usr/lib --enable-run-as-root --enable-merge-ffmpeg
--disable-dbus

make -j2

make install

new2dir make install if you want to make a pet

Google will track down the files, will attach the lua pet to this
message (rename removing the .gz)

Think that' it.

tahr-6.02 updated to 6.0.5 via quickpet and vlc-2.1.4 rincewind works

testing of HD Color Bars and Test Tone - PAL.mp4
Works. Results same as smokey01's here

Billtoo, I just tried your VLC recipe in Fatdog64-702 and it worked fine.

I made it into a SFS, about 28M.

My first ever successful build of VLC.

Thanks

You're welcome.

I also have smplayer and smtube (latest versions) installed in lxpupsc, vlc can be used to play videos from smtube which is nice, just right click on the video and select vlc as the player.

Thank you Billtoo, will try and compile.
Looks like there is hope for VLC after all.

I compiled vlc-2.2.3 in LxPupSc again, there were a few libs missing from my first
attempt.
From PPM in LxPupSc: dvdread-503,dvdnav-503,lua,a52.
Other stuff:fontconfig-2.12.0.tar.bz2 (blfs),libass-0.13.2.tar.xz
(blfs),libbluray-0.7.0.tar.bz2,libpng-1.6.22.tar.xz,last_x264.tar.bz2
Needs qt-487 from PPM as well.

./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var
--libdir=/usr/lib --enable-run-as-root --enable-merge-ffmpeg

make -j2

new2dir make install (made vlc pets which takes a while)

It shows dvd menus now, should support subtitles too.

Hopefully someone will compile, package and post vlc-2.2.3 for others to download.

Anything that I compile is always way bigger than it needs to be :)
