May have finally fixed samba! Brought SSMB back to life with a button to initiate samba (in /etc/rc.d & init.d). There were still about 2M worth of old samba3 & 4 files left over in the base file. It would have been nice if Tazoc had included package directory trees, but then, I wouldn't have learned as much about lighthouse & puppy in general as what little I have.

So in case anyone has downloaded any of it, you may want to redo the samba file and apply the delta patch to the base file. Mate has also been upgraded a bit. The fixed JL64-605.sfs will be on the dual-hybrid iso. Hopefully both will boot. They both come to life with quemu.

Finally, I personally use the 4.1.11 kernel. It just doesn't seem wise to have so many demons running amok. If the kernel folks don't slow down on their continual "upgrades", there may never be a stable Slackware 14.2. That is, unless they at slackware revert to the earlier approach of sticking with one kernel till the bugs are worked out.

updated firefox to 46 (new sfs) - (need to rm /usr/share/applications/firefox-update-help.desktop)

Better build (although that's not saying much) for k4.4.11. Some nasty sounding dmesg errors have disappeared, but the problem of the dev/console freezing is even worse. This is common with k4.4+. It was suggested (I think in peebee's experiments with later kernels) that bypassing shell scripts and linking directly to the shutdown/restart binary would fix the problem. I would ask, "then what about rc.shutdown & shutdown.config, not to mention switch or change wm?".

Thing is, the console hasn't frozen, the display is dropped just at logout - keyboard input still functions. But you have to know what the questions/options are now don't you! Irritating. I think the thing is, everything is going away from running as root, which means, "who needs options anyway?" Everything is also going toward full installs as well, so I don't expect any fixes from Xorg or the kernel folks. Understandably, BarryK's systems work great, but what I'd like to know, is why Fatdog doesn't experience these problems with fd702+? In fact, I used their .config (somewhat modified) to build k4.4.8. Well, who knows. Any edification would be much appreciated!

df.

ps
devx patch will come with the new iso. Also kernel sources and extended firmware addon. Mate is still a work in progress, and I think I'm liking it, although, as always, I think xfce has the best menu-handling system -- just takes a minute to load.

Uploaded Just-Lighthouse64-605-dualhybrid.iso to g-drive (see OP)
midsums are in the attached file (open as text or deposit in the drive or directory you've installed JL64 and click.

edit: added moz-nss to js-185 so that is the only sfs file needed for all the browsers to run smoothly. new mdsum is 1e70b83587fce0f5157001dc45e947cb

edit 06-12-2016: uploaded a tar.gz with a couple deltas, a little pet for mate panel 'til I get the menu trimed down (it's a bit confusing) and devs for some slackware updates.

On my JLH; if I click Menu>Multimedia I get 3 categories of selections.

But, using touch or mouse button #1 anywhere on any open area of the desktop, Multimedia does not give all of the Multimedia options/selections???

Is anyone else seeing this problem

I never did figure out why it does this, except everything now is going toward multi-user/multi-session, and without kde (with kdm session-management) JL64 is going more toward single-user per session.

Openbox has a separate, generic menu for the screen and the panel. The right click menu (it's actually left) has given me nothing but trouble for the multimedia section. It's a new openbox and lxpanel than in the original lighthouse, so the old system from L64-602 doesn't work either. I may work on the openbox menu a bit more down the road. Fatdog has a pet for the problem you describe. I've played with it a bit, but it needs to be redesigned to work in lighthouse (under openbox-session).

Xfce has a much more rational system, and it's a bit sturdier with the new kernel. Mate is good, but doesn't respect puppy application categories (in those *.desktop files). Lxde has the panel menu and that's it.

gvfs-1.26.3-x86_64-1.sfs (modified)
xscreensaver-5.35-x86_64-JL64.sfs
5-JL64_605.sfs

The delta-generated iso (v2) contains gvfs, jss-185, mate & xfce. For full functioning of window managers other than openbox & jwm, best to run with 5-JL64_605.sfs which contains python (along with qt and perl). mate & xfce startup scripts are modified so they are not the same as previously uploaded single packages.

Thanks I got JL64 installed as a frugal to my hard drive.

Having some problems.

1. When I use PPM to install a program, it says that it cannot find the package.

I have updated the database.

2. It says Thunar is installed, but I can not find it.

Scientist, what were you trying to install with PPM? Gslapt is the preferred package manager for slackware packages, but PPM has worked for me as well.

Thunar is on the xfce addon. With lxmenu, go to menu->File System->File Managers.

I tried installing Seamonkey and Firefox.

The Dillo browser is not very good.
It could not go to some sites nor download files.

I will try Gslapt.

Thunar is on the xfce addon. With lxmenu, go to menu->File System->File Managers.
Under File Managers

File Manager PCManFM
File Systems
Rox File manager

No thunar.

Used Gslapt and installed it.

When I ran thunar, a rotating hour glass appeared for a few seconds and closed.

Thunar did not appear.

Can not install LibreOffice or OpenOffice.

Using Gslapt, I can not install LibreOffice,OpenOffice, or Wine.

I like that G_Parted shows all drives instead of having to pick one at a time.

Great job. :-)

wine and libreoffice are available as sfs addons at gdrive (link in opening post).

Uploaded k4.6.3.tar.gz kernel package. I don't suspect there's much advantage to the kernel itself but I think the configuration is slightly improved.

Are these built-into the base 700 system OOTB? Asked because their SFS are not posted on the 700's site.
