No. I did not use wlanmakwer. In Ubuntu I configured it through the network manager.
I'm just saying that the internet was.

Problem finding the save on a USB flash drive.

Booting a live CD of Xenialpup 7.5
Making a save and putting the save on a USB flash drive.

Save is not being found when booting.

To fix had to make a manual change to the boot menu entry pmedia=cd to pmedia=usbflash
Because the boot menu is a read only, hard burn to the CD.
Have to manually change the pmedia= at each boot.

So, it seems booting from a CD install will not look on a USB flash drive for the save, because the pmedia=cd in the boot loader menu entry.
It will only search for save on the CD or a hard drive.

The live CD boot process needs to be fixed to also look on USB flash drives for a save.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

@ recobayu:-

I don't think you'll find there's a new release.

Billtoo is one of the forum's 'hardware testers'. During the lifetime of any given ISO, he will re-install the same ISO on a large range of different hardware combinations, and post the results. This is to demonstrate to all, forum members and guests alike, the range of equipment Puppy will run on.

This does indicate he is using a different Linux kernel, from the kernel 4.4.95 that is in the official version of Xenialpup 7.5

He probably changed the kernel.
Looks like he is using a PAE kernel.

Change kernel
That can be done in Quickpet>Info>change kernel.

However, changing the kernel is not something you really need to do, unless something in the kernel is only available in a newer kernel and you need it.
Example:
The official Xenialpup 4.4.95 kernel does not have PAE enabled (to be able to see more than 4 GB of ram).
But it can work on a lot more older processors.
So to get PAE support you need to change to a kernel that has PAE enabled.
But you also need a processor that has PAE support.
If the processor does not support PAE, a PAE enabled kernel will not work on it.

This thread seemed to be just about dead so I decided to show that the 32bit xenialpup is still useable.
The slacko rc3 threads aren't exactly lively either.

Billtoo,
I think I posted about the same time you did.
You do seem to be using a different kernel from what comes in the official Xenialpup 7.5.

Yes, I made a (maybe feeble) effort at compiling the latest kernel with the woof-cd kernel kit.
Seems to work fine, I'm willing to gamble with it but won't post it for others in case it's no good.

I installed my favorite applications with PPM,loaded the kodi-17.6-i386.sfs, and changed the kernel.

The only problems so far are the touchscreen needs to be calibrated if that's possible and screeny doesn't
work properly so am using tas.

Hi all.

Xenial keeps adding an extra quickpet icon to the desktop when there is already one present. How can I stop this from happening?

The version of Xenial I am running is xenialpup-7.5-uefi. When I boot this up for the first time in a completely unmodified state (either from the ISO on a USB device, or from a Frugal Install) with no Save File, here's what happens:

1. The Desktop opens displaying the default Quicksetup window. So I click OK to close that...

2. The Welcome window then appears, so I close that as well...

3. After a moment a new Quickpet icon appears on the Desktop.

Now, I can stop this from happening by creating a Save File and rebooting. I no longer get a new Quickpet icon every time from this point on, because the icon layout from the previous session is remembered and re-applied. But if I Remaster, and run the remastered version without a Save File, I am right back where I started: I automatically get a new Quickpet icon every time. And because, having remastered, I already have a Quickpet icon, I just end up with two - sometimes with one right over the top of the other.

I tried disabling /usr/sbin/quicksetup and /usr/sbin/welcome1stboot just to see what happened. I thought action of closing the Welcome window might have been what applied the icon, but it made no difference.

I notice that there are a couple of Forum threads dealing with the issue of a missing Quickpet icon in Tahrpup (Here and Here). These mention a bugfix that automatically applies a new Quickpet icon. Perhaps Xenial has inherited this from Tahrpup (just guessing).

The bottom line here is that I would like to be able to run a remastered version of Xenial (with my own embedded customizations) and no Save file, without a new Quickpet icon appearing every time I boot up.

Any ideas?

Well, if nothing else, can somebody at least explain the process by which the Quickpet icon is added to the Desktop after the other icons are present?

TwoPuppies,

I think this is what you want for the Quickpet desktop icon.

In the puppy_xenialpup_7.5.sfs /root/startup
There is a Quickpet file.
This file script runs on first initial boot of Xenialpup 7.5.
It fixes the missing Quickpet icon on the desktop.
After the script runs it deletes this Quickpet file from the /root/startup directory.
So, the installed Xenialpup 7.5 no longer has this Quickpet file in /root/startup.

What you will probably need to do is remove this Quickpet file from the puppy_xenialpup_7.5.sfs /root/startup when you remaster.

Yep, that does the trick. Excellent!

I suspected that such a script must exist somewhere, and I had already searched the file system trying to find it. I now realize that my mistake was to carry out the search after the new icon had been applied, by which time the script had already deleted itself. I guess you live and learn.

Thanks very much for your help.

EDIT: I guess it would probably not be a bad idea if the script /root/startup/quickpet had a couple of new lines added at the beginning so that it first checked /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin for the presence of the word "quickpet" and, if found, the script did not run.

That Quickpet script was a quick bug fix, because the needed entries got left off in the release Xenialpup 7.5 main sfs.

I have a Dell Vostro 1510.

There's a pause before X starting when booting XenPup64_75.
Please see links for background/history.

I have same issue with Debian Stretch Starter Kit and Bill (rcrsn51) helped me there (resolved).

I suspect this is same issue.... (?)
Note- spec details in the link.

My apology for cross-linking threads. :)

dcung,

How long a pause?

This probably is an Intel graphics driver issue.

If it does actually boot to the desktop.

Try using the Puppy Package Manager(PPM)
In PPM first update the database by going to configure>Update database.
In PPM do a search for intel-microcode
Download and install that.
Reboot.

Any help?
