- 2 folders are not needed anymore :
/usr/share/midi-icons #symlink
/usr/share/mini-icons #symlink
Nah, will keep them.
- another typo found : audio is missing in /etc/gshadow
solution is to add this line "audio:::root,spot,fido" in /etc/gshadow
OK, fixed.
- in .jwmrc-tray , there are some obsolete entries : blinkydelayed, xtmix, asapmshell...
OK, fixed, but only in the templates folder in woofQ. This means it is fixed when using jwm package from a host-distro, however not for a jwm PET.

In the case of a jwm PET, the fix will have to wait until I upgrade the PET. Which should be sometime soon, as want to upgrade jwm version, currently using a very old version.
It will be a lot of work, as all of the jwm theme pets will need to be fixed. Which is why I have put off upgrading jwm.

OK some progress ...

I disabled all UEFI BIOS boot options which Quirky did not like. Both Slacko and Antergros Linux did not mind them . . .

Have managed to boot into the original Quirky 8.2 WITH the save options enabled

I do not think the boot to HD directory remaster was written to but that may be a hardware issue around speed of the DVD drive that was also happening in Slacko . . .

Is it an external dvd drive?

To Barry ref your fix for pEqualizer

#575 Post by Rodney Byne »

To Barry,

have made progress with your pEqualizer fix.

The fader applet now launches, but as you said there
is a problem locating the link to amixer, as shown after
copy/pasting from lxterminal output:

# pequalizer
amixer: Unable to find simple control '01. 31 Hz',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control '02. 63 Hz',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control '03. 125 Hz',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control '04. 250 Hz',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control '05. 500 Hz',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control '06. 1 kHz',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control '07. 2 kHz',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control '08. 4 kHz',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control '09. 8 kHz',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control '10. 16 kHz',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control '01. 31 Hz',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control '02. 63 Hz',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control '03. 125 Hz',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control '04. 250 Hz',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control '05. 500 Hz',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control '06. 1 kHz',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control '07. 2 kHz',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control '08. 4 kHz',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control '09. 8 kHz',0

amixer: Unable to find simple control '10. 16 kHz',0

cp: omitting directory '/root/.pequalizer/preset/'

The preset above shows no file or directory present
when any attempt to restore the fader positions
for Flat only.
All faders immediately drop to the bottom when
f for flat is typed.

So far so good, but a bit more work is needed to
create the missing directory.

Best regards.

I tried Pmusic and got the same errors when playing an mp3, but only the first time.
Every time Ive tried it since then it works ok. I dont know if it was scanning for files or making a database,

Continuing from
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 640#961640
More testing gives for a usb full install
If theres no error and no /.fsckme.flg then on booting you can type quirky qfix=fsck and see the fsck does run.
But if there is an error and the flg is there, then quirky qfix=fsck doesnt seem to run the fsck.

Hi Barry,

Re: font management in JWMDesk

zygo wrote:
JWMDesk (or maybe just the font button) seems to break fonts in urxvt and JWM. They go from smooth to rough permanently, regardless of the state of the 3 checkboxes.
BarryK wrote:
There are some earlier posts about fonts. Maybe JWMDesk is expecting fonts to be there that aren't. We will have to ask radky to investigate this.
It seems the font problem zygo experienced is due to /usr/sbin/fontwizard which overrides some of the settings in Quirky's very-detailed /etc/fonts/fonts.conf, even when the checkboxes in fontwizard are unticked.

Since the Puppy fontwizard has been available for several years, I assume no one noticed the problem previously because the system font settings in /etc/fonts/fonts.conf were minimal in legacy Pups and were not impacted by the fontwizard's local settings in /etc/fonts/local.conf.

Attached is a revised /usr/sbin/fontwizard which does not override settings in /etc/fonts/fonts.conf, unless the fontwizard checkboxes are explictly ticked. The GUI includes one additional user option, RGBA or sub-pixel rendering, which provides optional font smoothing by modulation of RGB subpixel colors. Users can always return to the default font settings of Quirky by selecting only the checkbox for RGBA.

Also, in testing, the original fontwizard failed to exit properly in some scenarios. This is fixed in the attached revision. Just remove the fake gz extension and make the file executable.

If you prefer a different solution I'm open to suggestions. :)

---

Concerning zygo's comments about fonts in urxvt, I think the updated fontwizard will preserve Quirky's default display of Nimbus Mono L:Regular.

However, as ETP noted, other mono fonts may display significantly better. For example, compare the images below: for Nimbus Mono L:Regular and DejaVu Sans Mono:Book.

Thanks

Thanks very much for checking that out, and revising that script.

Yeah, Fontwizard has remained unchanged since 01micko released it in Jan. 2013. At least I think it was then, might have been earlier.

See blog post and upgraded PET:

Edit:
Looking around, fontwizard 0.0.1 was released October 2012, 0.0.1-1 in Jan. 2013.

The error doesn't seem to do any harm.

It seems to be due to SeaMonkey being compiled to use the system pixman library, instead of its own internal pixman library.

Unfortunately, Firefox and SM are becoming increasingly incompatible with the system libraries. cairo for example, now cannot use the system library.

The only thing I can do is choose to use internal pixman lib next time I compile SM.

Two possible improvements...

Open the F12 key from use by JWM so that apps can use this fkey.
For instance Blender 3d program uses F12 to render a project
and is used a lot.

----------------------------------------

Print screen key could be set up to launch screenshot program

Probably should think about bringing out 8.2.1:

Thanks for changing the "remaster" dialog to one about "Boot CD". However, the subsequent confirming dialogs still relate to "remaster".

Sometime, all dialogs related to the boot CD should be updated to use that term instead of "remaster".

I compiled Gimp 2.8.22 and installed it in /opt
To launch it I took an idea I read on gimp page
https://www.gimp.org/release-notes/gimp-2.8.html

So I wrote a script to launch GIMP from /opt

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
PATH=/opt/gimp-2.8.22/usr/bin:$PATH
export PATH
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/gimp-2.8.22/usr/lib
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH

/opt/gimp-2.8.22/usr/bin/gimp-2.8 "$@"

To release the F12 key to Blender app , here are instructions.

Modify the file
/root/.jwm/jwmrc-personal2

by deleting the line

Code: Select all

<Key key="F12">root:3</Key>
